Evening all

Today:

B: Two eggs scrambled in butter with a generous dollop of double cream, sautéed chestnut mushrooms and baby plum tomatoes, topped with parsley and seasoned with a good grinding of black pepper.
Water to swallow tablet.
Espresso.

L: Aperitif: dry white wine
Baked whole sea bass, belly stuffed with sprigs of thyme and garlic, drizzled with olive oil.
Steamed asparagus spears smothered with butter.
A medley of baked broccoli, cauliflower, onions, and sweet red peppers.
Water to drink.
Skipped pud.
Four squares, Montezuma's Absolute Black 100% cocoa chocolate.

D: Salad made with anchovy fillets, eggs, avocado, lettuce, Padrón chillies, salad onions, lemon verbena and a touch of lemon juice, with a dollop of home-made aioli for dipping, topped with walnut halves.

I spent much of the day preparing for tomorrow's feast. If Santa should leave my favorite tipple in the hearth, I'll jolly well enjoy a nightcap before turning in.

Today was the 3rd day of 'andijviestamppot'* with melted cheese cubes, thin rashers of bacon and some cubed fatty bacon. Still liked it at day 3, so it must be a good meal. :)
(*Mash, usually potato, in my case cauliflower, mixed with raw endive.)

I've been a bit down lately (as usual in december), and my friend decided that cheese would be the way to cheer me up! :hilarious:
So she sent me 35 euros to be spent on cheese. :wideyed:
This not only means I will buy very good cheese for myself instead of the supermarket stuff (which isn't bad, but isn't very special either), but it also means I'll go out a bit farther than I usually do, to visit a decent cheese store.
My friend is pretty smart.

Only an hours sleep last night as one of our stressful situations finally ended with a bereavement .

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs

A very up and down day bg wise.
Tried to offset first mini mince pie with crackers and blue cheese
Visitors arrived so tried new gingerbread. Couldn't stop at 1... think it was 4 over a couple of hours.

It's a birthday today and the birthday boy chose
D: toad in the hole with proper batter, cabbage.
2 glasses white wine and soda
Later 1 slice proper carrot cake.

Libre looks like a very scary roller coaster all day. Bit like my emotions really. It's been tough.

Happy Christmas everyone.
Today’s food wasn’t very inspiring.
Goat milk kefir, & vitamins first thing.
L- cream cheese& smoked salmon SRSLY roll. Then a KC mincemeat slice with clotted cream.
D- supposed to be hot roast beef and gravy sandwiches (Sort of a tradition) but I completely ruined the beef. It was tough as old boots so served wafer thin slices with gammon ( which was lovely - cooked in instant pot) and pickles/fermented veg and cheese. Red wine then a brandy coffee.

Bad luck you have a Libre on right now.
If it's almost finished, I'd take it off and let diabetes fend for itself for a few days.

A bereavement, a serious lack of sleep, and having to deal with Christmas and birthdays aren't ideal for BG, and that's ok, sometimes life simply gets in the way for a little while.
You do what needs to be done, including having the odd piece of gingerbread without going all out on the carbs, and you'll climb back on the wagon properly in a couple of days.
Don't ask the impossible of yourself.

And have a hug.

Thanks, you're good, @MrsA2! I sadly wouldn't have the control to just have that amount, so best for me to ignore the 1/2 bottle in my fridge. I did have 'some+' last year & just looked, my average BFG was 7, not bad actually, but as I'm solo, I'll stick to the stand in or it would be too easy, agree with Maglil55 on that, one is never enough.

@maglil55, sorry to read your grandsons both had a hard time & that you ended up being nurse & ambulance driver. Hope the wounds & pain heals on your eldest & the youngest really shows up the bullies by beating them in a far better way. Did laugh at your feet under count though. Hope you enjoy a better day & the HM Baileys!

Nice that you finally had your Palestinian meal, @Annb, even better that you had company in which to enjoy it & it was very tasty to boot.

Merry Christmas to all on the forum, will raise a glass to you later, once I've made it.

Oh & I'm still deciding on dinner, a prawn cocktail is winning so far, then I'll have the sauce made for tomorrow.
Merry Christmas to you, too. The younger grandson is not too bad. Happy it's Christmas. They all managed to go to a friend's annual Christmas Charity party for a couple of hours today (with me as taxi!). It's not too far, and I tied the outward trip in with the journey to the butcher. The eldest is still hobbling, but there are signs of swelling reducing.

My "Baileys" was made this evening, and it's still a little warm. I'm waiting for it to cool completely before sealing the kilner bottles and popping them in the fridge. I must confess to tasting it, though. Gee, it's strong! I have 2.5 bottles of it, too!

The little silicon feet I have are all on. I'll order another pack after Christmas. Right now, I'm relaxing for the first time today!

I agree with @Antje77. There's never a good time for bereavement, but Christmas does make it worse. Both my brothers were told they had weeks left just before Christmas time. I felt as if I'd never enjoy Christmas again. You get over it, though. It doesn't stop reminders creeping up on you, though. Hugs x

Forget about the Libre for a few days. I have. Mine is jumping about, too. I have checked it, and it's not a rogue. Just plain old stress.

Sunday 24 December - bed 7.3 FBG 6.8. Woke up to high winds again, then couldn't get back to sleep because my mind was buzzing with everything I had to do.

B. TAG and 2 slices of grandson's GF bread with pate. Benecol dairy free.

L. Nothing. I'd spent the rest of the morning cleaning while Hubby started setting the table for tomorrow. Then, off to the butcher with a detour to drop son, DIL, and both boys at a friend's Charity Christmas Party.
On return, I managed to get 2 batches of GF stuffing made. One with black pudding in it, one without. Then back to collect the party group.

D. No campari today. I'm on Santa duty later. Rib eye steak and some of Hubby's saute potatoes. CC little chocolate pot. In between, turkey prepped ready for the oven, stuffing rolled into balls for cooking, turkey gravy made yesterday, GF pigs in blankets packed ready for tomorrow, all veggies prepped by Hubby ready for cooking tomorrow, creme brulee made, LC Baileys made. Tomorrow, I still have a LC chocolate pear sponge to make, pea puree for the starter, then the scheduled cooking of everything!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Despite all the difficulties so many here are suffering just now, please all, try to relax, enjoy the holiday as best you can and don't worry too much about the diabetes - it's only for a few days and then we can all get back to normal, even if that normal is stressful. So all, please have a
Very Happy Christmas. :happy::happy::happy::happy::happy:

I'm so sorry, @MrsA2, thoughts are with you. I agree with what has already been said, relax on the diabetes as whatever you do, your results will be all over the shot.

Thanks! So good that your grandsons enjoyed some festivities, even if one is hopalong still, hopefully he'll heal quickly. Good that your taxiing was at least useful to you today. Like you, I only got a taste of the 'Baileys', there was a drop left in the jug & yep, it was strong too, but oh so good! I had to use my dear old dad's Talisker, I'm sure I heard him spinning in his urn, but I don't actually drink that & no point keeping it. I have two bottles, so will break into one when I open my pressies.

For dinner, I did have prawn cocktail & a Christmas pannacotta I made today too. Nephew dropped in for a couple of hours this evening, with a bottle of spiced rum & zero Coke. Well I couldn't refuse...twice!! :wacky:

Well m'dears....it's Christmas, cheers!

Sorry to hear that, @MrsA2, turn the reader or phone off, and let the pancreas do its own thing while you deal with things (and Christmas).

I hope there moments of joy in your day, despite everything, and that you'll be back on that wagon very soon. x

So sorry for you loss @MrsA2, bereavement at any time is difficult but even more so at this time of year, we lost my dad 4 years ago on Christmas Eve and his birthday was Christmas Day, it’s not easy but you’ll get through it and hopefully your memories will bring you comfort. Christmas blessing to you & yours

My Monday Lunch ;) was roast beef (disappointing), a chicken leg (I love those), sprouts fried with lardons (I love sprouts), pigs in blankets (too salty), and parsnip & potato mash (lovely - made the day before and reheated). I normally go to family, but fended for myself this year. I must say, I did miss the stuffing and the roasties, but needs must and all that. The wine, Vinsobres (not pictured) was very nice. Here is the dog's dinner.

Being on my own Christmas day always feels odd.
Coffee and cream x 2
Cheese and smoked salmon.
A friend of mine always makes me cranberry for Christmas. Doesn't last long!
Very small half rack of Lamb with mint sauce. Oh brussels which burnt!
Do have a small bottle of Champagne and might have later (didn't have)
More cranberry and cream later. B/S LOW all day. 10.4 2 hours after dinner!!

Bacon and eggs for breakfast, as usual.

Then I did succumb to a couple of mince pies - not large, in fact if you were a dainty eater you could spin them out to 2 bites. It didn't affect BG but something upset me because by 1300 I was feeling very poorly. Only started to feel better about half an hour ago - far too late to start cooking so I just had 3 cold chipolatas. Not much in the way of Christmas dinner, but that's fine - I'm not starving.
