Will my next ha1c be below 48?

In May I was diagnosed with T2D and a ha1c of 80.
Since then, I've gone low carb (less than 50g a day) have ensured I swim for 30 mins at least 5 times a week. I've lost 30lbs so far, and test my Blood Glucose every morning before eating. My average score over that time is 6.1 mmol/l

I've just had my follow up blood test and will know the results in 10 days or so I guess. I'd love to know if people here think I have a shot at getting below 48 mmols/mol or is 3 months too soon to expect a big drop?

I'm aware any answers are guesswork, but I'm curious to hear anyone elses experiences?

I think you'll have a fair chance of being below 48, especially if the diet changes started early on during those 3 months.
But whatever the result will be, it will definitely be much lower than 80! :)

With only testing fasting you'll have no idea what your BG is doing throughout the day.
Your morning number may be your highest, due to dawn phenomenon, or your numbers throughout the day may be higher than your fasting number.

Thanks - yeah, I know it will fluctuate during the day, I was just curious if anyone else had managed a big drop in 3 months really. Really, I just want to know now!

I managed to drop from 70 to 45 in two months then down to 36 after a further two months.
I have another comment, why don’t you register with your practice for on line access to your results? I usually see mine forty eight hours after the blood test.

Funny you should say that, I filled in that form today. No idea how long it'll take to process. I didnt even know it was something I could until a few weeks ago!

In two months I was at the lower end of prediabetes, in three months, my blood sugar levels were non-diabetic. And as you can see, I'm not the only one who managed. ;)

Fingers crossed for you!

Good luck with results but from what you say about action taken I'd imagine you'll drop below 48. I'm another one who saw a rapid drop and I was initially diagnosed at 97. Low carb works well for me and your rapid weight loss is a good sign that your body is responding to low carb and exercise. Look forward to seeing your results. I also get my results online like @Rachox in about 48 hours unless it's a weekend I now try and schedule bloods early in week as Friday blood draws tend to mean a longer wait!

I just looked up mine, looks like it took me 3 months to drop to 48.
Your drop may well have been a bit quicker than mine, it takes more time to find the right insulin dose than it takes to change diet, and it took 3 or 4 weeks before I even started insulin after diagnosis.

18-11-2016 77 mmol/mol
28-2-2017 48 mmol/mol
15-6-2017 42 mmol/mol
Really, I just want to know now!
So relatable!

Come back here when you have your results and we'll celebrate together!

Hi, I was 44 in March and 32 12 weeks later. I had been low carb for 3 months prior to the result of 44, I started testing and I found banana with shredded wheat for breakfast spiked me, so I cut that out and kept a close eye on carb intake.

49 to 36 in three months.

Averaging your morning results might hide quite a bit of variation. It's also informative to look at the ranges of your blood testing - lows and highs. It's one thing if all your results cluster round 6.1, another if some are 4s and some are 8s. I found high results were more informative in terms of behaviour-changing than the lows.

I think you definitely have a fair chance of seeing a good drop in levels.

I didn't have such a dramatic drop as some , but went from 60-62 to 47 within three months - just by cutting down on carbs, and I didn't know about testing at the time...

I dropped from Hba1c of 91 to 47 in 80 days so it is possible to reduce fairly quickly. I lost around two weeks as my GP told me the appointment 10 days after he had the result was just a routine follow up, and then he sprang the diagnosis of type 2 on me.
Same for me - there was about 2 weeks between my blood test and the initial diagnosis, so I've only had 10 weeks of being good - I feel like someone owes me!

Yeah, I've kept a little progress spreadsheet with my weight, BP and BGS. The Blood Glucose fluctuates but overall shows a downward trend, so fingers crossed.

A drop is a drop, so don't be disappointed if it's not as huge as you would like. Of course you may well be pleasantly surprised!

Not every practice does that ...mine certainly doesn't ...wish it did .

I went from 82 to 30 in 2 months exactly. No drugs or medication just diet and by finding this forum. I have no doubt you will be below 48. What do your numbers look like after eating etc?
