What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Gennepher thank you for the video and creative which again hits at brighter ties ahead hopefully for us all. You are so generous with your time and resources both to those animals and humans from what your posts reveal. Meanwhile the venerable 4 x 4 passed the MOT within my pre agreed spending plan and is currently having and air suspension issue investigated. That issue having previously being solved by a highly trained mechanic whacking it with something called a hammer. I’m not technically minded but I trust the experts. Another family issue which has consumed much of my time for week has been resolved as I prayed for. Thanks be to God. Have a song
. I like the Woody Guthrie version but this is a famous one. The original writer and singer Steve Goodman https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Goodman has a sad story. Off topic but I don’t actually care just now. @Annb phew, I wondered if I was pushing my luck. Not being able to use hyprlinks here is a right pain.
Glad to hear that your 4 x 4 has got through its MOT. Even more glad to hear that the family issue you prayed about has been resolved. Praying always helps - even when you don't get the desired for answer, but even more so when you do. I have a friend who has said, more than once, you pray for something but the answer might be "no". If that is the case, it is for a good reason, which you might find out about later. But it makes you feel better anyway.

I freeze potatoes, crumpets, anything carbs @Annb
It does work for me.
But key is the portion control as well.
So, one crumpet, and not every day, every other day.
A very small portion of potato.
Again these kind of carbs only every other day.
Hope this helps x
I had one slice of frozen/toasted wholemeal bread with 2 scrambled eggs this morning. Happily, BG dropped in a very satisfactory manner in the first 11/2 hours but by 2 hours it was rising and by the time I was able to take another reading (had my weekly visitor) it was 13.9 and still rising. So I guess it just delayed the rise by a bit. Well - that's what experiments are for - failure teaches something.

I think logs will be a nice Xmas gift @dunelm , then we won't have to burn our furniture...hang on, do we have wooden furniture...

Scary finish to art bit...but effective...
Thank you @gennepher - no idea what came over me! We are already eyeing up floor boards and doors even though that would be counter productive. We do have half a ton of smokeless coal briquettes and a couple of cubic metres of logs on standby.

Hi @ianpspurs

Thank you for your kind words on my video and painting, and my mini zoo :)

I am glad your 4x4 passed its MOT
And that your other time consuming family issue has been resolved as you prayed for.

I like that song. I've watched videos of both Woody Guthrie, and Willie Nelson singing it with The Highwayman. Woody Guthrie's version is compelling, very visual, especially the story he tells of Steve Goodwin. I didn't know he'd died of leukaemia. I had a friend, Liz, who died of leukaemia when we were 21, and she too lived life to the full. That is all you can do. Time is always borrowed.

Anyway, I like this version best because of the way Willie uses his voice visually, and the way I can realise an incredible visual bond between The Highwaymen. I can see the way Willie's voice changes from watching his face. This makes the song for me.

Hug for the untimely loss of your friend but I'm glad you seem to have good memories. As for the song and what it embodies where was a UK equivalent for the Beeching Axe? I guess Billy Bragg was too young at 6.

Love that song - and the singer

Big One Direction fan Ann?
Not really. I'm afraid I'm rather out of touch with modern life. The Everley Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel were more my kind of thing.

I just seem to have achieved so few of the things I thought I would when I was younger. However, I do have 2 major achievements. One is called Neil, the other Alistair. It might not be everything I wanted to do, but it's enough.

Had to make sure I have enough 28sec kerosene for over new year so getting a top up next week. Now c.10p a litre cheaper than Spring but still dear.

By refusing to turn on the heating, we've managed to eek out the oil and have sufficient for another month at least, as long as we keep the heating off. Trouble is, working out when the oil will be at its cheapest and ordering then. Hoping not to need to buy more until January though.

Wow!! 5.9!! What a great result after an Indian takeaway!!!... Did you have rice? I tried a small portion of rice the other day and it spiked 2.0, so not doing that again in a hurry. Pasta was surprisingly a much smaller increase for a similar quantity. I asked an Indian friend about alternatives, and he suggested Roti's. Now searching for a low carb Roti recipe!
Rice fridged overnight has fewer carbs. Look up resistant starch

Fbg 9.1

I had a bad reaction to one of the ingredients in one of the things I bought in the Polish shop. I didn't see the way one of the ingredients was listed. And it was printed in English. I had read sunflower oil (which I am okay with), but when I checked the ingredient list again (when I could get off the toilet), further down the ingredient list (it was split into 3 sections. The 3rd section was apart from the other two, and in very small writing in brackets like this was the word (rape). My brain never registered that it was rapeseed oil when I was checking before I bought it. So I was ill all day yesterday. I had diarrhoea, stomach pains, stomach ache, hot flushes (they are meant to be a thing of the past now)and bad heartburn. This is every time I eat something with rapeseed oil in, and it is in pretty much everything now. I went to buy some sliced meat in Lidl last week, and it was listed in ham and beef sliced meat.

Oh, and I have powdered bone broth, I bought it awhile ago before I realised rapeseed oil was an issue for me. It didn't make me feel good when I used it, stomach ache and needing the toilet (still in date for another year). i checked the ingredients last night. Rapeseed oil was in the powdered bone broth.

I am losing weight over this. I can afford to lose some weight...

This morning I am off any food totally. There might be another side effect for me linked to the rapeseed oil. It might be the thing that is affecting my taste buds. Before I had that reaction yesterday to the rapeseed oil in that food, my grapes tasted delicious and sweet. I cannot eat the grapes now, they are far too sour. I am not sure what I will be able to eat today.

I will post this now and do my usual post in a few minutes.

back in a bit...
Hope you are feeling better by now
They are very difficult @Annb to check
Thank you.
Understand about checking ingredients on labels because I had two milk intolerant children. Was amazed how many foods contained milk once I started looking for it. Was in sausages; chicken slices; even beefburgers as well as the usual suspects of biscuits cakes and bread.
