I like that song. I've watched videos of both Woody Guthrie, and Willie Nelson singing it with The Highwayman. Woody Guthrie's version is compelling, very visual, especially the story he tells of Steve Goodwin. I didn't know he'd died of leukaemia. I had a friend, Liz, who died of leukaemia when we were 21, and she too lived life to the full. That is all you can do. Time is always borrowed.
Anyway, I like this version best because of the way Willie uses his voice visually, and the way I can realise an incredible visual bond between The Highwaymen. I can see the way Willie's voice changes from watching his face. This makes the song for me.
