What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good afternoon everyone on a blisteringly cool afternoon here in the dark and dangerous north. 6.0 this a.m. Did you ever knock on doors and run away when you were a child? If so, UPS and Evri are recruiting. The grandchildren had a smashing day yesterday but alas have now departed to the land of homework and preparing for yet another school day. Mrs Miggins has gone to a baby shower - another detestable invention on par with stag/hen weekends, over the top halloween rubbish and expensive children’s birthday parties at expensive venues that compete with all the other parents in the class. Massive humbug to the lot. Yesterday the grandchildren grazed on Korean street food at the strangely named Farmers Market, went swimming (baths, not the sea) and then had a tea party at their aunt’s house. Smashing. Bag is packed ready for the 0555 train to Manchester airport tomorrow and a hopefully uneventful 12 hour journey to France. Art bit - playing with coloured inks. Hope your day has been a balm to any aches and pains.

I used to wear a Crombie back in the day when two tone tonic and Ben Sherman shirts was all the fashion. My grandfather took one look at my tonic trousers, wandered into his bedroom and came out with a double breasted tonic suit that he told me that he had had since the 1940’s.
who didn't have a crombie?
who didn't have or still has Ben Sherman shirts?
who doesn't have or had brogues? Or Comos?
Oxford bags?

And the two tone suit?
well one!

Burtons, used to do very well, with the tailored suits in the late sixties, early seventies.

wish our teenagers (boys) now had a bit more stylish wardrobe.

Inks look good @dunelm
Good luck for a peaceful journey to France.

Some people will do just about anything for money it seems @JohnEGreen.

Saturday's FBG 4.3 mmol/L on waking at 6.00 am.
Perhaps it's worth noting Ducks are in eclipsed plumage a.t.m.and the males adopt a similar plumage to females. Hence it may be a reason for all birds looking like females but that doesn't account for a further
big population change.

Thank you for sharing the art and details of what sounds like a wonderful family day yesterday. I hope the journey goes smoothly.

Have a good journey tomorrow. 12 hours is a long time to be travelling. Hope all goes well.

When I had the surgery on the right eye it was done at a private clinic the surgeon who carried it out informed me that the NHS would not fund the surgery on my left eye but for a few thousand pounds I could have it done privately I declined the offer. When I related this to the optician at Spec Savers he said we would have to wait till the cataract had grown then he could refer me. Then when I had my diabetic eye screening done at another opticians I was told that part of the criteria set out by the NHS was if the cataract interferes with a diabetic eye test then the surgery would be funded I have since looked up the NHS criteria and that is the case I had been misinformed by the surgeon and Spec savers optician am a bit miffed about that.
I should jolly well think you are miffed @JohnEGreen.

Thank you for taking the trouble to explain your situation. Let that be a salutary warning to others here who may be contemplating cataract surgery.

A fair point @lindisfel that had crossed my mind, but the slaughter took place in March apparently, well outside the shooting season!

Good morning everyone on an early o’clock start here in the dark and dangerous north. Another 6.0 at 0445 this a.m. Now on a train, hurtling like an Olympic racing snail towards Manchester Airport. It’s a three hour journey, calling in at all manor of places but it is a direct train and as it starts in Saltburn, I get a choice table seat with power socket and close enough, but not too near, the latest taste in automatic circular loo doors which when not correctly locked may give all the exciting experience of appearing on Surprise Surprise. Art bit, more coloured ink. Hope your journey through the day is a pleasant one. Travel koffy mugs - never leave the house without one.

Great Art bit with colour.

5.6 this morning.
We had a lovely relaxing visit to Gooderstone Water Gardens yesterday. It was so nice to see that 2 young swans have decided to make it their home.

Mr K should really have gone to his doctor to as his blood pressure readings are beginning to climb too high again, but he won't go because he was on the meds before and he felt quite unwell.I

So we have made a pact. If the new intervention I am trying doesn't work he will immediately go to the doctor.

Success - yesterday's blood pressure 127 over 69. Much better.
The pact is that he tries to remember to breathe into sides and back of ribcage when he breathes normally throughout the day.

Research has shown that people can come off their meds if they adopt this form of breathing if they were previously upper chest breathers. It also lowers resting heart rate and mine has dropped by 6 beats per minute according to fitbit.

Obviously not research by drug companies.

Morning all on a bright and cool but not really cold September morning here in L.A. Fbg was 4.4 initially at 6.40 , then rose to 4.7 after ablutions and stayed there after pitch rolling and some steps. Dropped to 4.4 by 8.27. I had tea then food about an hour ago (peanut butter and jarlsberg) and meds, including steroids, did my first 1k steps and bg is 5.7. @dunelm all the best for the journey and all that lies ahead. Thank you for sharing another splendid example of your artistic talents. @Krystyna23040 Interesting tip on breathing technique - think I'd need a video or coaching but I'll do some googling. Sunday lunch with #3 son and children was good but even a glass of red wine (first alcohol since summer madness) with the meal couldn't stop the steroid effect. I had no trouble avoiding JKP's apple crumble with cloves and sultanas - what kind of monstrosity is that anyhow? Apples and crumble topping are enough already for me - but with pudding gravy obviously. School and pre-school pickup in Cambs later then a meal with the same cast as yesterday which will be a blessing indeed. Enjoy your own Monday as far as humanly possible.

I don't think we are quite quorate yet so this meeting of the PGOPCO Society (Performatively Grumpy Old People with Confected Outrage) can't officially be called to order. Meanwhile enjoy your hot beverage of choice and have a little rant about the C21st - don't forget to mention Hell and handcarts:)
