What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

B: cheese on toast made with the 90 second bread. I dropped it on the floor as I took it out of the grill but 5 second rule applied and shoved it quickly onto my plate. Amazed it landed cheese side up.

L: 1/2 pack rollitos. 4 seedy crackers with cream cheese ( I’m also getting addicted to these @shelley262) and a peanut butter Carb Killer bar

D: chicken and asparagus traybake thing. @DCUKMod I think this was from the link you posted - 25 best traybakes. Very good and asparagus was on special offer so even better. Choc chia pud to follow.

@ziggy_w you mention ‘tartar’ quite often - is it tartar sauce? Sort of sharp mayo with capers in? Or something totally different.

@jayney27 I find that some flavours of the low carb bars affect me and others don’t evennif they have the same carb values. I had a white chocolate Carb Killer bar recently which sent my bg sky high, yet other flavours had no effect. Odd.

Yes it’s strange regarding the bars, the raspberry bar seems to have no impact while the caramel one causes a slight rise, however today the rise was much higher. It was what it was, no 2 days are the same so I just go with it. Today has seen slightly higher numbers than normal all day so maybe that’s the reason.

Sometimes it's hard to go beyond a tray bake.

I did some GF sausages in the airfryer this evening (My OH is away, golfing). The airfryer was a triumph, but that sausages were disappointing, bearing in mind they're from our excellent local butcher.

To be fair, he did point out, at the point of sale that they buy in their GF sausages due to their absolute desire not to absolutely hav no chance to cross-contaminate. That said, they were flavourless. Only 2 left. I may have to bury then in a casserole or something.

Gluten-free can be such a pain sometimes, although it makes bread dodging at functions soooooooooooo easy. There's always a silver lining if we look hard enough. ;)

Hi @DJC3,

It is really surprising that your 90-second bread didn't land with the cheese side on the floor. I am never this lucky.

How are you? Are you doing a bit better?

Tartar actually refers to steak tartare -- sorry about the confusion. In Germany, we often eat raw ground meat, it just needs to be very fresh (similar to sushi). Strange countries, strange habits I guess.

I remember in my student days when I worked in restaurants to keep myself a lady requested a steak tartare. You would pick up the ingredients from the kitchen and blend together in the dining room in front of the customer. Having mixed, seasoned and presented to perfection the lady announced "I want it well done". Resisting the temptation to tell her "That's called a burger madam" I kept a straight face, powered up the lamp (steak Diane, deviled kidneys, crepe suzette etc were all the rage then ) and cooked the tartare in front of her. Head waiter thought I'd taken leave of my senses. I also resisted the temptation to flambe it but madam was happy with her burger.

Ah that makes a bit more sense now! I was thinking a mayo like sauce with mayo!!! Ive never been brave enough for raw meat, I should think you need to be spot on with the seasoning do you?

Yes thank you, today especially feeling a lot better - not just because of cheese side up accident, although that did make me very happy, but fbg in 5s for the first time in months and average bg is in the 5s today, again first time since July when everything started to go pear shaped for no apparent reason.

Brilliant! What great restraint you have, I’m sure I couldn’t have kept a straight face.

Very funny.

This reminds me of the time my father and his girlfriend visited in the U.S. We went out to eat and at the end of the meal I left 5 dollars as a tip on the table. My father's girlfriend proceeded to very slyly move her hand towards the note, intended to take and pocket it. I realize she didn't really know how tipping works in the U.S., but it might have been quite embarrassing.

No!! Did you accidentally stab her hand with a fork?

Hi @DJC3,

Wonderful, I am so happy for you. It is sometimes almost impossible to understand why blood sugars are high or low. There seems to be no rhyme or reason and this makes it frustrating. So, really well done for your determination and patience.

Shame the sort of fish pie didn’t work, sounds like it should have been nice.

I might try it again with a few adaptations - you’re right, it should have been nice.

I did wonder at you watching the Apprentice as you’re always up so early. You missed the full cringe- fest of loud opinionated big heads. Addictive tv.

Even going by the opening few minutes they seemed worse than usual, but very entertaining.

@maglil55 you have the best stories. Made me start the day with a laugh!

Good evening all. Sunny, warm day here - shorts and polo shirt still. Hope you all had a good day. Woke at 3.30 and couldn't go back to sleep - very dark start. 2 Advent calendars bought and crackers eyed by Mrs P (I hate those things). 88 year old MIL will have knee replacement Nov 1 - very resilient lady who genuinely can't see how anything could go wrong- but she had forgotten about a stroke and didn't know she had AF :arghh:
Menu
Wakey Wakey: A lorra, lorra Tea (woke @ 3.30) Fitbit credits me with <3.5 hrs sleep
Breakfast : More Tea; walk; soya milk hot chocolate - organic, raw, Peruvian jobby, cinnamon (long day already so try anything)
Lunch : Large salad with 2 turkey breast slices and avocado; chia seeds and psyllium husk powder; Water - fell asleep
Mid Afternoon: Wai***** Latte
Evening meal: Cod, prawns and fennel in white wine and creme fraiche; broccoli rice and mushrooms (recipe from a well known supermarket first letter W); water

Hi all
Hope all had a good Friday - today a bit more complex for me than expected but comes with the caring territory.
@ianpspurs the thought of anything sweet battered and deep fried makes me feel ill - reminds me of the battered mars bar luckily not my thing. A local cafe does battered hot mince pies they started last Christmas and still advertised on the board outside just the thought always leaves me feeling queasy when I walk past.
Breakfast - one quarter of lodough eggy bread, sausage, bacon and egg.
Lunch - IP veggie soup ( celery, celeriac, turnip, spring onion and leek) followed by coffee and one square 90% chocolate. Pleased with bgs again very low after the veggie soup - loving my Instant pot!
Dinner - chicken salad and small glass of red wine followed by raspberry clafoutis with yoghurt.

Hi all, another week done.We celebrate a birthday on Sunday, not mine, but may involve a little bit of a slip and slide re carbs, I will try my very best to stay on track, however this Birthday is very close to our holiday so I may just indulge a little bit.
Coffee with cream on waking
B 90 second microwave bread with butter and marmite
L home made cauliflower soup pack of pork scratchings
Almond milk cappuccino when I got home
D baked eggs (frittata) with tomato, onion, pepperoni and mozzarella, some mushrooms and roasted sprouts

On the way home after a great day. Phone call early afternoon to say I’d been successful with a very large bid for work then a lovely afternoon and early evening in London with @Debandez after her photo shoot.

Walked in the sun - T-shirt weather- along the Regent canal from Haggerston to Islington stopping for coffee along the way. Then dinner at Five Guys before walking to Euston for coffee and cream at Caffè Nero and then dropped @Debandez at station.

Dinner was bunless bacon cheeseburger with lettuce tomato and onion with mayonnaise, (OMAD day).
