What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Oooooh,......... We've probably been to some of the same places then.
Lüneburg before Hohne, and NATO HQ Rheindahlen near Mönchengladbach (in the mid 1950s)?

For all the time I spent there and in spite of my father being fluent , I never did more than pick up a little German as we more or less living in isolated English speaking communities:banghead: At secondary school we had to learn French and if there was any slight change we might end up going to University, we were obliged to lean Latin rather than German much to my regret! But I think I understood more than I could/can actually speak...

@ziggy_w I've always been impressed how well other Europeans can speak English and use it to speak to us even in their own countries. It makes me feel my lack of German is even more shameful considering all the years I spent there as a child.

I entirely agree with you -- family is important. This is one of the reasons that made me decide to return to Germany.

Returning to the UK from Germany just for the weekend must have been quite stressful. You probably almost spent half of the weekend travelling -- but it was probably still worthwhile. Moving back (even though living 300 miles away) must have made things much easier.

Thanks also for your kind words regarding my English language skills. I have to admit upon returning to Germany, my German language skills were quite horrendous. Where I teach, we have quite a lot of international students -- and a French student (who incidentally was also a German national) once remarked that based on my slides and lectures I was teaching international students incorrect German as they would expect me, as a German national, to speak and write my own language properly. However, with time my German has improved and I realize that I was quite creative im making up some words that didn't exist in the German language, but instead were a literal translation from English -- sometimes rather embarrasing but also very funny. Unfortunately, though, I am afraid that the more my German improves, the more my English deteriorates.

Ziggy, I think when we're in our 20s nothing stresses us and nothing tires us. Aside from when I was unwell, obviously (!), I was very, very fit, so just bounced back from everything like Tigger.

Over time my German got to be pretty fluid (I'd never boast fluent), and I loved some of the word structuring. I can completely understand the made up words, because so many times something is just an amalgamation other words. I still do well understanding German, but writing and speaking it is a real strain.

When I think back to those crazy days bombing down the B1, I just smile.

It was a great life, but it's still pretty good now. :o)

My very first ever trip to Germany was on a sports tour based in Monchengladbach, ad I have been to Rheindalen. I seem to recall the Dutch service shops were much better than the Brit NAAFI. Actually, from someone who never really went for chocolate, I seem to recall the Dutch chocolate and coffee were excellent.

Hi all hope everyone has had a good day. I had a good Pilates class but otherwise back to work and I’m planning too to catch up a bit over next couple of rainy days. I find it easier to work in bad weather don’t like being indoors when it’s sunny! Family birthday on Sunday to look forward to.
Breakfast one slice of bacon and egg
Lunch tin of mackerel with olive oil and four lc seeded crispbreads one square of 90% choc
Dinner pork shoulder on bed of buttered cabbage and small glass of red wine followed by raspberry clafoutis with yoghurt

Hello all,

So fascinating to read where everyone is from and about all the international experiences. Makes me feel lucky to be born in these times of globalization and access to international travel for most.

Today's menu:

Breakfast: Two double decaffeinated espressos with cream and erythritol.

Lunch: Lamb's lettuce with a homemade lime-mustard dressing. Sliced fried chicken breast (about 2/3 of one) in homemade low-carb sate sauce. A bit of soup (honestly couldn't finish it because I was already full.)

Snack: Four squares of 85% chocolate.

Dinner: Attempted a lupin hummus, but this was time it ended up a bit of a catastrophe. Had read that when you use baking soda to boil the lupin beans, it helps to soften them. The softening worked brilliantly. However, the taste was decidedly odd, very salty plus something else difficult to define. I must have inadvertingly used too much of it. I then tried to balance the tase by adding lemon juice (almost an entire small bottle of it). It seems the lemon juice didn't increase the acidity, but reacted with the baking soda to form some kind of carbonation, the mixture started to rise forming bubbles. Yuck :yuck:! Thinking about this, it is actually quite funny ;).

So, ended up quite full by tasting repeatedly, though not quite the satisfying experience I was expecting. Then had half a DD keto roll with liver pate to get rid of the taste plus a glass of red wine.

Good evening all. Windy but mild today here. Hope all those going on holiday or short breaks have safe travels and relaxing, enjoyable time. @ziggy_w I live near Cambridge ( The Fens) but have lived in parts of London - not made for that really. Mrs P was not impressed with having her oven cleaned as an early anniversary present - some people:angelic: If I didn't test bg after meals today's food would have suited me greatly. No bad numbers just spoils the experience.

Evening everyone, I can’t believe what a well travelled bunch you are. @ziggy_w I live in NW London and in Cornwall on and off but eventually full time. Ive never lived abroad, very staid!
Completely agree your English is excellent - I’d assumed you were an ex-pat Brit.

Back to the thread topic.... high fbg sayed high all day but it was a nice day nevertheless
B: Cheese and asparagus omelette. Coffee and cream.

Mid morning: Costa coffee and cream

L: Poached salmon fillet with green salad, avocado, choa seeds and 20g walnuts.
Greek yogurt.

D: Instant pot lemon and garlic chicken ( thighs) with brocolli and fried button mushrooms. Then sf jelly and cream.
Decaf coffee and cream coming soon.

Tescos had substituted my usual smoked mackerel for fresh mackerel. So i pan fried it in butter for lunch, with a dash of balsamic vinegar.

Then this evening was lamb mince, pan fried (I’m in luuuurve with my reborn cast iron pan) with fresh mint, Worcestershire sauce and a teasp of mint sauce (not jelly). Then had a chunk of cheddar. Stuffed now.

Oh, and there was some 70% mint choc at one point ;)

B. Cheese omelette, black tea, black coffee
Off to see the health care assistant who now does the annual diabetic review. Usual "amazing results - how do you do it?". I took a deep breath and started to explain about LCHF but I quickly sensed that she thought that my attitude was over the top. However, for once I persevered!
Snack. Black coffee then off for a walk.
Lunch. Brainwave! Went to local hospital restaurant and had a big salad from the salad bar as the weather was so mild and sunny.
Snack. 25g nuts
Dinner. Leftover quorn vege chilli and Sicilian cauliflower rice pilaf. Still hungry so Aldi nut and sea salt bar.

Thanks Shelley262. You are always so supportive!

Well I just don’t understand, bg before dinner was 5.5. Lowest all day. My Carbs &cals app says dinner was 5g carbs and now bg is 7.3!!!
Getting really fed up with not being able to figure it out.

Really interested in this. Working on resetting my food signals which have definitely been disrupted by recent issues with sweeteners and other dessert like foods triggering cravings.
I always find sweetners to be a trigger for carb cravings too. I try to limit them to very occasionally.

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Lunch: small piece of left over gammon steak, fried egg and one piece of HiLo toast followed by Greek yoghurt and raspberries.
Mid afternoon: raspberry chia pudding and black coffee.
Dinner: cheese and mushroom omelette with cauliflower and broccoli salad followed by SF jelly, cream and LC chocolate granola.

I find it hard to keep up with posts, sometimes. Interesting group.
One thing leapt out at me, another water baby, @DJC3 . I have bored enough people trying to encourage them to swim, and I go to aquafit sessions at least three times a week. When I am at home near a swimming pool that is, as I often take off to remote rural retreats. Alas, my wild swimming days are over, where rivers and lakes are concerned, but would still swim in the sea at the least opportunity. My OH, is the voice of reason, as he is more aware of my limitations than I am.
As we seem to be revealing our whereabouts, I am a proud Lancastrian, from the Pool of Life.
Food has sort of lost its appeal at the moment. I am being boring and unadventurous.
Wed and Thurs breakfast was a tablespoon of FF Greek yogurt, walnuts and ginger tea
Wed lunch , buttery eggs, coffee. Wed dinner, salmon green beans, lots of mineral water.
Thurs lunch, left over salmon with mayonnaise, coffee. Dinner cheese and mushroon omellette..

Hey @Rachox . Snap. We had same dinner tonight. :)
I like the look of your desserts.

Coming back from a trip down Memory Lane to the present again:

No breakfast as I slept late for a pleasant change...but I managed to drink nearly a litre of water during the night.

Lunch - would have been breakfast:had I been awake- Livlife with butter, herb & garlic Boursin with mixed seeds and a sprinkle of pink salt; small windfall apple; coffee with cream

Dinner - knock on effect - would have been my lunch, and I didn't fancy cooking tonight anyway, so prosciutto with a small fig, goats cheese , pine nuts and a mixed leaf salad with lime juice and olive oil; baked nectarine with butter, Sukrin Gold and a spoonful of ground almonds; lemongrass and ginger tea.

Mid evening snack - final couple of dessert spoonfuls of my Halo Top vanilla ice cream and an early mug of pre bedtime cocoa with cream

(And I'm not admitting to scoffing rather more chocolate marzipan than is good for my glucose levels this afternoon, and will deny if challenged that I'm doing a bit of comfort eating due to having my life made a misery by my [insert rude word here...] oedema :inpain:)

Hello all.

Hugs, @DJC and @Robbity -- Hope today is better for both of you. @DJC3 -- Definitely can't fault your diet, which is perfect. I definitely get your frustration.

Breakfast: Two double decaffeinated espressos with cream and erythritol.

Lunch: Lamb's lettuce with a homemade buttermilk-mayonnaise-balsamico dressing, fried onions and beef salami. Asparagus fried in butter and olive oil. Yesterday's lupin-hummus, which didn't turn out too well, but is edible (have a hard time throwing out food).

Dinner: Fried duck breast with a homemade low-carb honey-orange zest oil-balsamic vinegar sauce. Assorted raw veggies (bellpepper, cucumber, celery, snow peas) with low-carb sate sauce, about a fifth of a not-too-sweet pear. A glass of red wine.

Hi all what a wild day here in the west but working so mainly out of weather at PC although did get out for quick walk at teatime can’t stand being completely indoors all day!
Breakfast sausage, bacon and egg
Lunch veggie soup and one piece of 80% supermilk hotel choc ( first try of this it’s delicious and no impact on bloods! It’s down as 26 g of carb per 100g but only small piece eaten - it was an August birthday pressie and still got lots left)
Dinner chicken salad with small glass of red wine followed by Lc trifle Yum! @DJC3 i cooked my egg custards like you in the IP yoghurt pots for 3 mins as you suggested and with lids loosely placed on top worked really well. Used 2 small loaf raspberry clafoutis sliced and soaked with a bit of Madeira placed in Sf jelly at bottom of 6 glasses then added the egg custard to top of jelly when set and then topped with cream - wow a keeper and my OH is very happy. Think mum will be impressed when I make them again for my next visit to her in a couple of weeks. Got two more days worth of trifle too to look forward to!

Windy but warm - odd combination. Big poster for the kitchen arrived today along with head torch plus oven liner in a huge box. Liner fitted, head torch used for locking chickens up safely and poster put up so Mrs P "gets the memo" Naturally, I ignored the poster and invoked the 20% off piste clause:angelic:
Breakfast: Tea - Exercise bike - instant coffee with cream
Dockey : None
Lunch : 3 halloumi fries and 3 Americanos in Wetherspoons; irrationally worried in case they had a coating - little friction in P family since Mrs P claimed she couldn't eat if I wasn't going to ( I have an unfair reputation as having a bit of temper - amazed I held my tongue)
Mid Afternoon: Walk then Tea
Evening meal:; Salmon fillet; Halloumi fries - deep fried they are a revelation; 2 Portabello mushrooms
2 parts of the poster obeyed so fair enough.
