What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

:hilarious:
But did it taste good?
It didn't taste particularly bad but I don't think I'll bother with the rest of it because it didn't taste particularly good either. Just like eating a bowl of liquid turmeric. Nourishing, I'm sure. However, BG is 10.9 just now. That's lower than today's starting point (13.9).

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries washed down with a black coffee.
Late morning: black coffee and an Aldi protein bar.
Skipped lunch.
Mid afternoon: black coffee and a phd bar.
Dinner: tonight was the last night of my 12 week ’lifestyle course’ which I actually enjoyed in the end. It was a deal I did with my diabetes nurse in the spring. The Eatwell plate reared its head but even non low carbers thought the amount of carbs was way too high!
We all brought in food. There was plenty of salad, someone had cooked a potato free frittata. Someone else made some sugar free chocolate truffles then there was my low carb carrot cake, so I ate well!

Ah, but tumeric is supposedly very good for you.

Maybe that's why I made it with so much turmeric - I don't remember making it at all. BG has been dropping today - down to 4.5 but is now 5.4. Maybe that's the turmeric effect, who knows? Maybe I can think of some way of adapting it to make me more enthusiastic about it. Have to put my experimental thinking cap on.

Can you use it to add to a soup or stew in an amount where it helps the flavour instead of kill it?

10ish fried some garden tomatoes in olive oil and served with one slice of fried bacon, egg and slice of LC toast
1ish hm soup - used hm slow cooked chicken broth which made use of the remaining chicken carcass from Sunday's roast Chicken meal, I slow cooked it in water and herbs from garden for about 12 hours and resulting stock was almost jelly like in consistency when cooled - a good sign) I added celeriac, celery and leeks with seasonings to make soup then whizzed until smooth also added dash of double cream when warming. Lots left over for following few days. Followed by one green cox Apple peel and four squares of 90% chocolate
5ish sea bream with cauliflower cheese plus glass of dry white wine followed by LC brownie.

I've added some small chunks of ham and some celeriac and some swede so it looks more like a stew than a soup now. I'll see how it looks/tastes tomorrow.
There's an article here about Tumeric (and its active ingredient curcumin.

My brother, who suffered from Myloma, took a curcumin supplement. It was not that he believed there was any chance of it "curing" his Myloma, but it did give him considerable relief from the many issues both the disease and his multiple drug treatments caused.

Wednesday 4 October - bed 7.2 FBG 7.9. This has been a very busy day. I had to get to the garage for 9am as my car was going in for the day to try to solve the issue of the media failure. It's still there as it is proving a bit of a mystery. I'm OK, though, as they gave me another Corolla, so I'm driving the same car. I then had to get back to go for the Doppler scan (which was normal), and my uric acid test has vanished! More bloods next week now. Gardeners were here, boys for dinner (which required 3 slightly different versions of mac and cheese), and I'm still on transport duty for swimming training as the weather is vile.

B. TAG until I got back from the garage. A very quick 2 slices of SRSLY toast with salami, chorizo, cheese triangle, and a thin slice of Jarlsburg before heading off for the Doppler.

L. Nothing - in between making bacon rolls for the Gardeners and getting grandson for lunch, no time.

D. I needed something quick for in-between taking boys home and transporting DIL and youngest to swimming training. I opted for a salad of buratta, parma ham, avocado, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, walnuts, and a dressing of balsamic vinegar/olive oil. CC little chocolate pot with raspberries.

Will be heading back out to transport the swimmers home then, relax! 20231004_174658.jpg

Has anyone tried this supplement?

active edge cherry active capsules for sale on Amazon

There doesn't seem to be anything in them that would cause issues. I have 2 neighbours who swear by them for keeping gout at bay. All they contain is freeze-dried Montmorency cherry powder and Vitamin C. Sugars, carbs etc is fine too.

I've no experience of gout personally (although I know a number of sufferers) or tried this supplement. I'd rather have the cherries, tbh, but they're off the menu obviously.

If these capsules reduce the need to take painkillers, I suppose that's a good thing.

Evening all

One of my go-to recipes, when family and friends with different food preferences are joining us for lunch, is walnut and mushroom nut roast. It can be prepared and cooked in advance and it's equally nice hot with gravy and a selection of veggies in season or cold with salad. Best of all, it's enjoyed by vegetarians and meat-eaters alike.

Today:

B: two poached eggs topped with a knob of butter, slices of avocado and tiger prawns seasoned with black pepper.
Water to swallow tablets.
Espresso.

L: Walnut and mushroom nut roast made with onions, eggs and flax 'egg', garlic, stock and rosemary (so customary breadcrumbs and a roux made with wheat flour not needed).
Vegetable tray bake using broccoli, cauliflower, sweet red peppers, courgettes and leeks.
Steamed runner beans smothered with butter.
Raspberries, blackberries, blackcurrants and Greek full-fat yoghurt.
Water to drink.

D: Seafood salad made with king prawns, kalamari and mussels, lettuce, Romano peppers, celery, baby plum tomatoes, parsley and salad onions, with a dollop of home-made aioli for dipping, topped with toasted pistachios.
Water to swallow tablet.

My dad used to drink a black cherry juice from Holland & Barrett, he swore by it to keep his gout under control so I guess these capsules may have the same active anti gout ingredient?

@LivingLightly well done on such a fantastic HbA1c result.
This morning I had a glass of kefir the just black coffee.
Went to a new Aquafit class, it was great fun - had gym equipment in the water and we did circuits on treadmill, crosstrainer, bicycle among other things. Felt like a good workout.
Home for lunch hogget stew which had cooked overnight in slow cooker with h/m bone broth. Few nuts and a handful of toasted coconut flakes which are my new favourite thing. Very tasty, crispy and very low carb.
Dinner - started with a portion of sauerkraut then airfried chicken thighs, h/m coleslaw and avocado. DGF cake with cream cheese topping. ( last one!)IMG_3427.jpg

B: 1 sq of the cauliflower savory and a small avocado
Cwc, tea
Tiring day cleaning and decorating.
Took a lunch box of cheese, olives and almonds
Only drank 1 tea, not enough
D: a chunk of cheese will cooking Shakusha
with eggs added and cheese on top. Did have 1 small piece of ciabatta with it, but bg didn't spike.
1 glass red.
