Newly diagnosed with type 2, so trying to get my head around a new way of eating. Can I just ask, has anyone here tried yellow pea pasta and does anyone know if it is compatible for a low carb diet? I'm only just looking into it now. Also does anyone here follow Dr Michael Moseley's blood sugar diet recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

Another night of poor sleep

B: ff greek with seeds and a tune teaspoon of jelly to flavour it
Tea
Yoga
Quick dash round supermarket.
L: homemade soup using up leftover parsnips, sprouts and ham stock. However I didn't taste the stock first and it was very very salty as I'd used far too much. Thinned it down with water and milk so was just about passable.
A bit of cheese. A neighbour had dropped some in a present but neither hubby or I have taken to the aged emmental (whats the spelling of that?) So put some in the soup, but didn't like it there either.

Pm a nice long nap, but woke to find hubby had left me not a bite of macaron, but 2 whole ones. So of course I ate them :banghead:

Tonight will be roast chicken with some roasted sprouts and spiced cauliflower . Already sipping on a wine and water

I’ve just scanned through several pages of this thread to find out about Branmayo. I’m assuming it’s Branston pickle and mayo mixed. In what proportions and is anything else added? I think @Antje77 may be the creator? What does it go with well?

I mixed Branston and mayo as an experiment when I was making some sauces to go with mussels, and it turned out to be surprisingly good!
I love Branston but it's also high carb. On the other hand, it has a very strong flavour, so a little goes a long way when mixed with mayo for a dipping sauce. :)

I haven't scrolled all the way back to find the post (I didn't call it branmayo at that point, that honour goes to @jessj , who will of course share in the profits once we start to sell it), but I ate it on 10 december so I likely posted on the 9th, 10th or 11th. I think I also added a little lemon juice for extra zing.

EDITTED FOR CLARITY My cheat dips were before diabetes and low carb. I haven't looked at the carb count. I assume everyone on here would decide within their own carb allowance whether they would use it, and if so how much.

I think the short answer would be "to taste".
For years I cheated and mixed any pickle/chutney/condiment to mayo to make a 'dip', usually for crudités but also good with burgers, sausages, fries...or even just on a spoon or finger.
Mango chutney works well too.
I don't think I'd ever tried Branston though! That honour definitely goes to @Antje77

I was intrigued at this so I made some.

I used 100g of mayo and added 5g of Branstones and mixed together.
I got up to 35g Branstone and the taste became more branston to taste.

I then doubled the quantities and tried again and it was exceptional.

Therefore my experiment, (for 1 portion) for my taste is this below.

30g of Branstone small chunks gives : 10.5g Carb, 0.2g Fat, 0.2g protein.

Helmans full fat mayo gives : 1.4g Carb, 79g of Fat, 1.1g protein

Hth.

Welcome to the thread @PocketRocket personally I've not tried yellow pea pasta so I looked it up and to be honest it would not be suitable for me as the nutrition box lists 50g of carbs per 100g of pasta. I try to stay around 30g per day for all my food so even a small portion would be too great. It depends what daily limit you are looking at.
There are increasingly low carb pastas available albeit pricey compared to high carb pasta - such as those sold by the low carb food company:

These are much lower in carb and very filling I personally can only eat 20g of it and as it's much better carb wise at 8.9 g of carb per 100g so more manageable for me.
There are a few companies that sell low carb pasta and if you search low carb pasta you'll get results. Carbzone for example I've bought before from Ocado and I'm sure others may have some recommendation s several others in the thread have recommended NLCK kitchen.
Hope this helps

Thank you @shelley262 that's really helpful. Wow 50g of Carb is a lot, so I'm glad I asked. I'll look into the suggestions you've made as it makes family meals a little easier, certainly as I want us all to make some changes and better choices.
Thanks again.

Just had decaffeinated coffee with one of my remaining 70% truffles just 2 more left now then back to my 100% Montezuma s chocolate with orange oil, which is easier for me to limit.
I don't buy Branston as not keen on it but @MrsA2 like idea of using a little bit of hot mango chutney with mayo or maybe yoghurt I tend to avoid because of sugar content but a small amount for flavour may work.

That made me laugh, @Antje77!

@Rachox, I use 1 tspn of small cut Branston to about two of mayo. It gives a nice acidic zing that I find goes well with a burger.
I do hope you see some improvement with your foot soon, you must be so frustrated.

@PenguinMum, that made my eyes water as I don't do eyes, even though I'm having to atm, nothing like you're suffering though. Poor you!

@PocketRocket, I tried some yellow pea fusilli a few years ago when gluten free & not diabetic. Erm...it was dire! I didn't like it at all, sorry. Now diabetic, I sometimes have Explore Cuisine edamami or black bean spaghetti (sold in Sainsbury's), that is much more palatable. They're lower in carbs than the yellow pea, @13.1/100g & 14.3/100g, but higher than Shelley's. I use 60g to keep the carbs down, although, I only eat one meal a day so could have the 100g but it is filling.

Dinner tonight was prawn salad followed by 6 cherries.

Back home after a wonderful evening yesterday and a completely rubbish night of sleep on the ship. So little sleep, interspersed with hypo alarms, that I decided that going for a cold swim would be quite unwise so I didn't.
Hopefully swimming will still be possible on monday evening instead, I expect this will be the last day swimming is possible without bringing an axe, considering the weatherforecast. I plan to swim after my first kickboxing lesson, which will be from 7 to 8 pm, so I'm looking at a proper night swim! :joyful:

Despite feeling quite hungover from too little sleep and too many hypo alarms (both real hypos and false alarms), I still cooked a proper meal!
Zuurkoolstamppot (sauerkraut mash) with cauliflower, rookworst (Dutch smoked sausage) and pork belly done two ways.

Neighbour dog (the black and white one) chose exactly the right moment to pay me a short visit, right when pieces of meat were distributed and plate was to be emptied. Ridiculous animals, they even ate all the sauerkraut!

B: Greek yogurt, blueberries and raspberries. Cup of green tea
L: Will be large flat mushroom lightly and slowly panfried with a bit of olive oil, then low salt/sugar baked beans on the side.
D: Parents visiting for dinner so we'll have a charcuterie board with olives, stuffed peppers, mackerel pate and veg crudités. I'll put bread out, but personally give it a miss

I love food so it's great seeing what everyone else is having!

Bit of a quandry this morning about breakfast. I have eggs and I have cheese but felt pretty ill for much of yesterday and blamed it on the cheese at breakfast. No bacon or ham left. I know I have some gammon steaks in the freezer, but couldn't find them so I just pulled out a pack of beef stew and that will do for breakfast.

Also pulled out a pack of frozen haddock and one of roasted pork chunks. Not sure which one to use for 2nd meal.but it will be one of them.

Managed to get my BG down to 7.5 yesterday and it stayed there all day, so am doing something right. It's still 7.5 this morning. For some, that may not be much of an achievement, but for me in recent days, it is. Apart from roasted tomatoes yesterday evening to go with the salmon, I had no carbs yesterday at all. It does seem to be the way to go for now - not just low carb but almost zero carbs. If I can keep BGs around the 7 to 8 mark, I'll add in some extra veg next week.

Good luck for 15th Jan @Rachox what a disappointing setback.
@Antje77 well done on winning those anxiety battles. Go you!
@PenguinMum I’m glad you have an appt to see the consultant, I do hope he/she can explain what happened and reassure you.

I missed posting yesterday: I had DD broccoli cheddar soup for lunch and airfried pork steak with red peppers and spinach for dinner.

Today was Paul’s birthday so all the family round for Sunday Lunch. Roast Hogget , sprouts sauteed in bacon fat ( thanks @Annb ) puréed swede and cauli cheese. Champagne to start and a glass of Chateauneuf du Pape with dinner. A really lovely day.
Forgot to take photos so here’s one of yesterday’s soup.
