Ingredients
To make Home-Style Tomato Sauce, you'll need:
  • 1 can no-salt-added crushed tomatoes - (28 oz)
  • 3 cans tomato paste - (6 oz ea)
  • 3/4 lb plum tomatoes chopped
  • 1
  • 1/2 cups water
  • 3/4 cup dry red wine = (or
  • 98% fat-free no-salt-added canned beef broth)
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 large garlic cloves minced
  • 1/2 tbsp crushed dried oregano
  • 2 large bay leaves
  • 1/2 tsp freshly-ground black pepper Salt (optional) to taste

Method

  • To make the sauce: In a large heavy pot combine the sauce ingredients
  • Bring to a boil over high heat; reduce heat to a slow simmer and cook stirring occasionally for 30 minutes.
