Still adjusting to not having to rush around at weekends caring, but things are much more relaxed. It'll take a while to come down from red alert status!

Saturday
Brekkie - low carb granola with coconut milk and berries, tea

Lunch - salad, chicken, olives, feta stuffed mini peppers, nuts and cheese. S F jelly and cream

Dinner - it was Faturday (my treat day) so I decided on a chicken korma but it was terribly disappointing. Tasted of nothing. Had it with mixed veg though rather than rice. Daughter and I usually make our own curries from scratch but she was out (rude ) so I had a lazy microwave version but I was unimpressed. Used to eat that kind of thing all the time! In the spirit of Faturday I also had a bag of Revels

Sunday
Brekkie - granola and blueberries

Lunch - chilli prawns, celery, rollitos, olives, nuts and cheese. SF jelly

Dinner - made a low carb microwave 'English muffin' which was really good but I over toasted it so it was a bit, er, well done (aka burnt). Eggs on top. SF jelly again.

This is the muffin recipe - easily adaptable for sweet or savoury I reckon! I've been quite successful with recipes lately https://www.sugarfreemom.com/recipes/2-minute-low-carb-english-muffin/

Some nice menus today along with oopage, slight trepidation before a fast, a duo walkathon and preparations for tests. Me? OMAD at our little baby boy's - (27, 6' 4" and 15 stone of gym going baby) but plenty of cuddles with granddaughter and grandson and facetime of crawling other granddaughter.
The meal was lamb, sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower cheese, gravy made from bones roasted yesterday, wine and veg reduced today; 10 cal jelly and extra thick cream; 1 small bar 85% taste the difference dark chocolate (4 gms carb); 2 squares taste the difference candied orange chocolate (7 gms carb); small glass red wine ( 1st this year) and a coffee. Meal cooked by our baby - seems all my boys do the cooking.
Food and wine good, company good and the extra bonus I wore a new pair of red socks - I love me new socks and especially red!

okra. Cigarette smoke, old, new, and permeating a room, wafting from a balcony, etc etc. That I have so many chronic diseases. That I take so very many meds. Being cold. Anything too loud, but specifically non-classical music and the television.
Good luck tomorrow @shelley262 !
@Rachox sounds like you’re feeling much better, and eating happily! Tomorrow must be the day, it must!
@Kingmidas ooo yum I just CMT’d the English muffin recipe, and a link through to another. Nothing can replace my brown lc bread but these are perfect for vacation! (Sans currant jelly, sadly, but no more guilt about butter!)
@ianpspurs I know how you feel about new socks! Silly but so fun.
Bfast 1/2 avocado, egg, decaf/soy/cream
Lunch celery, swiss cheese burrito on lc tortilla (hey look at ZF! Variety!!!) and some very carefully planned oopage, as was my late bday celebration at older baby boy’s and his baby girl wife and their desperate hopes for an actual baby. To wit:
Slim slice of their hm angelfood cake (67th year I’ve had it for birthday!) with unfortunately sugared strawberries and brought-my-own pour-over cream. I savored every bite, and it was the best sugar treat of the weekend by far.
IMG_7603.jpg

Tested before lunch, at 2.5 hrs, and again an hour after that. The riseage was your 1.78, and the returnage to previous came down to one lower US point than the before lunch. I suspect something but will never know. I had no soap to wash hands with either time; used just water, and reused first pp lancet for second. Testing in the car on a winter day is chilly business if you are going to open the door and run cold water over your hand!!
So I feel a little queasy, and I’ll blame that on the cake flour and sugar. I will repeat it next year though. Worth it.
For those waiting for warm weather, a harbinger from my ratty front yard:

Sleep well all!

Almond butter made by Meridan, (not sure of spelling, not at home, so can't check) available in Lidl, also cashew butter. Both are pure, nothing but the nuts.
pretty close, @SlimLizzy ...meridian
got some last month...like the whole earth peanut butter, but wasn't too fussed by the almond butter...
maybe ok for cooking ?

@Goonergal glad to hear the sofa fits!
@Brunneria and @shelley262 good luck with the Thriva tests!
@Emma_369 you definitely deserve some time to go 'feral' as @ianpspurs would say. I have no doubt you'll be right back on track after your break.
@ianpspurs you obviously trained your boys well!
@Rachox sounds like you're feeling a bit better, even if the menu is getting a little repetitive!

I didn't get chance to post yesterday as it was a pretty hectic day. Oh the glamour, we spent the day pulling up old carpet in our bedroom! I dreaded the state of the floorboards, but they are actually in pretty good nick. The plan is to sand them and paint them, but we will be living with bare floorboards for the moment. I can't remember everything we ate yesterday, apart from dinner which was at our local pub. My choice was far too carby to share! Back on the wagon today! Mr B had a lovely black pudding and bacon starter, followed by ribeye steak with mushrooms, tomatoes, a few peas and a couple of cheeky chips. Today was very much LC business as usual:

Breakfast: Strawberry and vanilla chia pudding, mixed berries, flaked almonds. Coffee (no cream today).
Mid morning: Almond milk cappuccino. Tiny square if Montezuma's Bean Machine chocolate.
Lunch: Brie, baby bell, sliced roast beef, olives, cucumber, cherry toms, nuts.
Afternoon: Americano at the Garden Centre.
Dinner: Roast chicken, roast celeriac, cauli cheese, baby carrot, cavalo nero, gravy. 1 square 85% chocolate. Decaf coffee with a splash of cream.

A bit of catching up to do. Annoyingly I had most of it down then my battery packed up. So recharged here we go again! @Rachox - hopefully tomorrow you will be back at home relaxing.
@zauberflote- how did the visit to Nurse Dracula go for the blood draw (sorry if I missed it in the pages of posts) @Emma_369
Way to go with the weight loss. @Chook - best of luck with the fast. Keep us informed.
I've been busy making the most of the last few days of half term by tackling all the nasty jobs - the range cooker, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and the hell of the cooker hood. The fridge /freezer wasn't bad as I did it not too long ago. Cant say the same for the cooker hood. Has to be the most difficult thing to reach but it's done now, mesh filters cleaned and new filters installed. Appliances are all polished up - now I just need to keep little fingers off them from Tuesday. Got to say that Elbow Grease that looks like waste from a nuclear reactor certainly does the job.
Anyway - Friday
BGs starting to settle again - bed 7.4 FBG 7.1. Still got some DP but it didn't go over 8.2 which is the best in a few days. Didn't leave the house today but it was a lovely day so got started on the sofa covers and got them outside to dry.
B. Tassimo Americano grande with a dash of cream. Another couple of bits of Dr Almond bread with pate pate the fruity chicken one.
L. 1/3 of a raspberry PHD bar
(Was still attempting to reach the back of the cooker hood with various gadgets!)
D. Last nights chicken braemar was horrible (serves me right for not making it from scratch) so most of it ended up in the bin. To redeem myself I battered out a chicken breast and did a variation on one I've cooked before. Pan fried the seasoned escalope then topped it with sliced avocado, added 3 bits of crispy bacon this time, a touch of the Lakanto pretend maple syrup then topped with a slice of gouda which I allowed to melt on top. Served with the veggie chips and sugar free ketchup.
Small scoop of halo top with raspberries.
Saturday - bed 7 FBG 6.9. Finally got back into the 5's today and DP stayed in the 7's. Hubby off to the football so I had another go at the cooker hood and tiles before venturing out.
B. Tassimo Americano grande with a dash of cream. Yet another 2 bits of Dr Almond bread with melted gouda this time. That bread keeps so well in the fridge.
L. Nothing. Out for shopping but my wandering took me in the direction of Lakeland where I had a peaceful browse on my own but things kept jumping into my trolley.
D. Knocked together a stir fry with pork, chilli , M&S mushroom veggie stir fry, soy, cauliflower cous cous. Last of the halo top with raspberries and blackberries. (And Hibs won).
Today - Sunday - son wanted to go shopping and No 1 grandson came too. Visited recycling too but I had stuff to take too so not an issue. Cooker hood thankfully is done, filters replaced and the mesh filters nice and shiny. Bed 6.7 FBG 6.1 and NO DP!
B. Tassimo Americano grande with a dash of cream. Nearly at the end of the Dr Almond ciabatta but still managed 2 bits with pate pate the salmon one today.
L. Nothing - I knew what dinner was to reward myself for all the kitchen scrubbing.
D. My usual campari and soda. To start 1/2 a lobster thermidor. I didn't make it this time. Spotted it in M&S and it was the last one. It would have be cruel not to buy it. Main chicken escalope with coconut and lime, cauliflower cheese and veggie chips. I made a dessert for a change - rhubarb and strawberry crumble. I've put it on CMT but I'd suggest reducing the Monk Fruit quantity. I found it very sweet. Otherwise really enjoyed it.
Last day of half term tomorrow. Got Aqua at 10am then a trip to the Salvation Army with my surplus electrical goods that are cleaned and boxed ready to go. Got a feeling there is something else but no doubt it will come back to me.

@maglil55 lol we get a phlebotomist (tech specialty) and she was very very good. We talked about her horrific life circumstances in whispers after. That was Friday, so I don’t expect results for several days. And my word you are a busy bee. I can’t keep up with my laundry, let alone major kitchen stuff like that!....and Everything Else. I know your type— one of my sisters in law is a whirlwind and supergranny right up there with you!! Hat. Is. Off!!!!!!

Good morning all. Glad to be back on this thread -- busy time at work is past, so will have a bit more time. Definitely have missed everyone on this thread a lot.

@Goonergal -- Definitely empathize with you, it's very easy to get behind on postings with a busy work schedule.
@Rachox -- Hope they'll release you from hospital today. Did you bring in a lot of the low carb food? Or did they prepare it for you? Glad you're feeling better.
@Brunneria and @shelley262 -- Keeping fingers crossed for your blood tests.
@zauberflote -- Also good luck to you on your blood tests. The microwave bread and the cake looked delicious -- looked a bit like tres leches cake with strawberries. Have you ever had tres leches cake? Wonder if it is possible to come up with a low carb version?
@jjraak -- Definitely sounds as if you're getting the hang with this woe. Your chocolate-nut mixture looked delicious.
@maglil55 -- I admire your energy getting the kitchen all spanking clean -- mine definitely needs it, maybe next week. Good luck with your fast.
@zauberflote and @maglil55 -- What is CMT?

Was at the phlebotomist's a week ago and it took me quite some time to digest the news. Unfortunately, after three and a half years there seems to be about 60 to 70 percent of the plague left in the vein of my upper thigh and iliac vein (connecting upper thigh with trunk), so his advice is to wear the compression stocking till the end of my life, at least on longer days at work. Also recommended taking blood thinners when sick or travelling. Moreover, poo-pooed previous specialist's comment that both legs were functionally equivalent. Bummer. I was pretty depressed all week, but have now decided to ask previous consultant for all tests results and try to figure out the discrepancy -- especially since based on my own experience things seem to have improved with the affected leg (hardly any swelling or hardening of the calf after a strenuous walk or exercise).

On a positive note -- I now often observe that blood sugars drop significantly (in the range of 0.6 mmols) about 15 min after a meal -- what's up with this?

Yesterday's menu:

Breakfast: Two decaffeinated espressos with cream and erythritol. Two scrambled eggs with cheese. A salad of lamb's lettuce, three tiny Roma tomatoes, shredded gouda and Caesar's dressing.

Snack: About 40g of 95% chocolate (4g of carbs altogether). A glass of wine.

Dinner: A serving of my new favorite cauliflower mash (a whole head of cauliflower with 100g of butter and 3 heaped tablespoons of potato fiber (potato fiber is about 8g per 100g) and then whisked with a mixer). About 100g of lamb and three stalks of white asparagus with sauce Bearnaise. Tested blood sugars every half hour after meal and blood sugars peaked at 1 mmol and were back to the level before at 1 hr and 30 minutes.

Late night snack: One 125g-container of chicken liver pate.

Have to agree with @zauberflote ...whirlwind, indeed.

Please @maglil55 , i stole the idea for the chicken...sounds delicious,
but the Dr almond bread..i se there are many varieties, did you buy a particular one or did yoiu make your own.

I miss the bread, so am looking into baking some , have not as yet tried any recipes, and wondered if you had and how they compared to the dr almond bread...( probably only need a slice or two a day, so keeping sliced and in fridge would be fine.)

Cheers @maglil55 ..i'll let you get back to whizzing about and saving the world..;)
have a good un.

breakfast, Alpen muesli, about 30g, with milk, raspberries and few blueberries, coffee.
really hungry so: snack no grain granola, with milk 30g pecans
lunch 4 slices cheese, whole pack of crispy bacon strips, 6 apricots and coffee.
Dinner three fish roast, beans, asparagus, leeks, 2 small glasses wine
yoghurt and 40g berries
Seems too few calories again, and slightly over my 100 a day carb target.

Bit odd yesterday, down to collect grandchildren and bring them to our house for a couple of days.
Lunch; a double bacon and cheeseburger at a well known food emporium - just the meat and cheese, on a dish, with a knife and fork.
Dinner; I cooked a roast chicken dinner with vegetables, mash and gravy. Half the chicken for me - the other half and the other bits and bobs for the rest.
Supper; yes, some supper. OK, a bag of pork scratching.

@ziggy_w welcome back!! I did go feral on a piece of tres leches cake a few months ago, and spent a week wondering how to make that lc. I finally decided that sweets are just not a thing I should have. 90% chocolate takes care of it for me. The cake, however, was the real deal angel food, and worth every crumb. Another piece next year, God willing!
Went to bed late-ish last night after the “15 minute clam chowder” turned into 2 hours of prep! Slept late too. FBG yikes! Paybacks for late supper and must also be the DP. Circling round the notion of skipping lunch (a pretty big deal for me although routine for many here). We shall see.
CMT is an app called Copy Me That. It lifts recipes from the internet very neatly, so you have them all in one place. You form “recipe circles” with others. Please sign up and we’ll look for you!
Your leg situation sounds like a real pain to manage. It would seem to me that patient observations of improvement ought to count for something!
That cauli mash sounds decadent!! Yum! Excellent fir your bg’s too!
