Raising Money for JDRF - The Naked Muse

Hello - in August 2012, my son Django was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, and severe DKA. It devastated us all. He was 2. He now pumps using a medtronic veo, and has just started on his enlite CGM. He is so brave. Faced with feeling frustrated and helpless in the wake of his diagnosis, and...

One year on and 3GS old son is very upset and angry

Thanks everybody for your supportive suggestions. Alas, have done and do them all already. Since writing the post my son has started talking about the dental surgery (butchery?) he endured last November - very deeply buried but devastatingly, from all he describes, it is becoming clear that he...

One year on and 3GS old son is very upset and angry

Hello...it is coming up for 1yr this month and, despite managing really well with cannula changes and all diabetes stuff since his return home, my little boy Django has recently started to really sob and shake at c change time, very anxious, trying to be brave, tries over and over to do it but...

    pump harness?

Annette - Vik here, with Django. How is it going? Django had the harness and it rubbed his skin raw with Velcro around his shoulders and he felt really self conscious of it. Then we got him a pump waist band from Pump Wear (yes, USA and a bit expensive at around equivalent of £16 each) - it is a...

Sudden change in behaviour - type one toddler

Temporary living away from home and PCT rules

Hi - we are thinking of taking an extended period away from home, to spend developing our art work and having an adventure with our son. We are not travelling outside the UK but it is too far to back weekly or even monthly, but we want to keep the same diabetes team for our son for his clinics...

Raised welt on cannular site of quickset

We didn't worry when it was a red mark and at that point, it went down as you say, after a few days, leaving only a small purple scar at each site. These, however, are much more severe, this last one looked exactly like a perfectly round burn blister, with a clear fluid like substance inside...

Raised welt on cannular site of quickset

Spoke to medtronic advisor who suggested 3 possible scenarios (in order of severity, most likely first): Allergic reaction to adhesive: treatment = applying barrier cover before introducing new cannula Allergic reaction to Teflon inside: treatment = changing onto using stainless steel SureT...

Raised welt on cannular site of quickset

Thanks Charlotte - we can only use the buttocks at present because my son is only just 3 and hasn't got enough fat elsewhere and is very scared of the whole thing so is only just getting used to this site, but we do alternate the sides and try to rotate in a circular pattern. I'd show the...

Raised welt on cannular site of quickset

My concern is that he has developed a sensitivity either to the plastic or to the insulin itself. Or that the sites are "tired". Won't be something trapped, as we are very careful to wipe site with surgical spirit prior, and I've used this elsewhere with no reaction. Hmmm...perhaps try another...

Raised welt on cannular site of quickset

Hi The last 5-6 site changes for my son's cannular have left him with a raised circular welt, pale in colour, surrounding the hole, and with red circle surrounding the white one...if that makes any sense. It goes down, but the site remains sore for longer and I've also noticed that 24 hr later...

Alcohol consumption during breastfeeding & T1 toddler

Ok, so I am sitting in bed next to my nearly three year old son and I am feeling wretched with guilt. I have always breastfed my son on damned, and still do (it was slacking off at point of diagnosis in August 2010, but his need for comfort and security had upped it again). During my entire...

    Dental Complications

mum of 3 year old T1

Hi - my son was diagnosed August, age 33 months. Everything got hurled out the window and fast speed and I look at me and my husband and our son now and there are days where I feel an overwhelming sense of sadness and anger at the unfair randomness of diabetes. The first day I was home alone...

    Ketones and crazy levels

Help (again)...my little boy is running at 1.7 ketones this morning, and a BM of 13.9 - he was at 0.4 ketones last night and we'd had erratic levels on last pump infusion site. Running high with no response to bolus or basal increase, then running low with no response to lowering basal and...
