An en-masse diabetic workout has created a national record in Indonesia. 10,000 diabetics gathered throughout Jakarta and Surabaya to stage a mass workout in the name of diabetes healthcare . The Indonesian Record Museum were on hand to certify the event as the largest ever.
Over 5,000 people gathered at Carnival Beach in North Jakarta, whilst over 4,500 met at the military command HQ in Surabaya. All attendees were diabetics treated at hospitals in both cities.
The workout was part of a wider initiative by the Indonesian Association of Diabetes. The chairma, Sidartawan Soegondo, reportedly commented: “We conduct such exercise sessions regularly. But this is the first time we have held a huge event because we want to build familiarity among people with diabetes.” Indonesia is a diabetes hotspot, with an estimated 14 million plus diabetic patients.
