The Centers for Disease Control and Preventio, based in Atlanta, have found that death rates for black children suffering from diabetes are twice as high as those for white children.
The researchers based their conclusions on a 25-year period. The CDC said that young black people who inhabit poorer areas might not have good access to medical services, as well as lacking quality education about diseases.
Speaking on the subject, the CDC reportedly commented: “Incidence of type 2 diabetes is increasing. With proper management and access to care, morbidity and mortality from diabetes is preventable, particularly in the pediatric population.”
The research team said that further research is necessary to establish the cause of this increased level of diabetes deaths amongst black youth. Type 2 diabetes has spread form an adult-only form of the disease to become more and more prevalent amongst younger people.
