According to diabetes news from Qatar, patients with type 2 diabetes still have low awareness about the disease and how to manage it. A recent study shows that diabetes knowledge, attitude and practice are all low.
Diabetes is rife in Qatar, with an estimated 17% of the population suffering from type 2 diabetes . The research was conducted by a team of six, using a grant from the Qatar National Research Fund.
The team found poor knowledge of diabetes and complications, including risk assessment, testing, awareness of symptoms and more. The exercise was based on 54 Qatari diabetes patients attending a diabetic clinic in Hamad General Hospital. The mean age of patients was 60.
