Diabetes Forum nominated for Quality in Care award

Tue, 30 Jul 2013
The Diabetes Forum has been nominated for a top award from the 2013 Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes programme.

The online resource run by Diabetes.co.uk has made the final shortlist for the 'Best initiative supporting self-care' award, which is one of 11 QiC Diabetes categories that aim to recognise, reward and share good practice in diabetes management, education and patient care.

With more than 68,000 members from across the globe, the Diabetes Forum (DCUK Forum) was put forward for improving self-management and diabetes care through social interaction.

According to QiC Diabetes, self-care is an integral part of daily life for people living with long-term conditions such as diabetes, with individuals taking responsibility for their own health and wellbeing with support from those involved in their care.

The Best initiative supporting self-care category recognises that improved self-care is empowering for patients, and reduces the incidence and costs of diabetic complications.

Other initiatives in the running for this award include programmes run by Dorset County Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, University Hospital of Leicester NHS Trust, Ninewells Hospital, University of Dundee, and Manchester Diabetes Centre, Central Manchester and University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The winners of all 11 QiC Diabetes categories will be announced at a special awards event at Sanofi's Guildford headquarters on Thursday October 10, 2013.
