Medical safety alert for TRUEyou blood glucose tests strips reissue
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) have announced a medical safety alert for the reissue of certain lots of TRUEyou blood glucose test strips.

The issue reported by the MHRA is that: "certain lots of test strips may give incorrect low blood glucose results that could lead to undetected hyperglycaemia".

If you have a TRUEyou or TRUEyou Mini blood glucose meter, it is important to visit the MHRA safety alert page which lists the lots of the test strips that are affected.

If you are unsure about whether your test strips are affected, contact the manufacturer, Nipro Diagnostics, on 0800 08 588 08.

The MHRA advises anyone with a batch of affected test strips stops using the strips as soon as possible and returns them to the manufacturer.

It is important to contact your surgery if you need replacement test strips, or replacement kit, to allow you to continue testing your blood glucose.

The MHRA lists that the background of the issue is that some vials of the test strips were not properly sealed in production which may have negatively affected the performance and accuracy of the test strips.

MHRA’s Director of Medical Devices, John Wilkinson, said: "The number of affected products in circulation is thought to be low, but anyone using the TRUEyou test strips is advised to discontinue using products with affected lot numbers and return these to the manufacturer for replacement."
