Leading UK diabetes charity, Diabetes UK, has launched a fresh new hard-hitting UK diabetes campaign. The advertising campaign, called Silent Assassin, shows how serious diabetes is and that it can cause a range of diabetes complications such as kidney failure, amputation, stroke and heart disease .
The visuals of the campaign illustrate diabetes as a shadowy wraith that will attack at random. The posters spread the strong message: ‘Diabetes: Beware the Silent Assassin,’ as well as highlighting the facts that diabetes causes more deaths than breast and prostrate cancer combined, that death certificates don’t register deaths from diabetes complications as diabetes, and that diabetes causes a variety of deadly complications.
The Chief Executive of Diabetes UK, Douglas Smallwood, reportedly commented: "Dealing with the diabetes time bomb is a matter of urgency if we want to prevent millions of people from facing a grim future of ill-health. It is a startling fact that diabetes causes more deaths than breast and prostate cancer combined. This is why Diabetes UK is launching its Silent Assassin campaign to raise awareness of the seriousness of the condition and we hope that its hard-hitting messages will help us address this serious health challenge and improve the health of the nation."
