The more time spent in the sunshine, the great the ability of the body to produce Vitamin D . a new study shows that getting plenty of sun could help older people to lower risks of developing heart disease and diabetes .
Those aged between fifty and seventy faced increased risk of vitamin D deficiency, due to the process of aging. A research team at the University of Warwick have found that they more time spent in sunshine, the greater the ability of the body to produce the Vitamin.
Dr. Oscar Franco of Warwick Medical School was reported in diabetes news as saying: "As we get older our skin is less efficient at forming vitamin D. As well as this, our diet may also become less varied, with a lower natural vitamin D content. Most importantly the production of vitamin D after a normal amount of exposure to UVB light decreases with age because of skin changes. When we are older we may need to spend more time outdoors to make sure we get the same levels of vitamin D we had when we were younger."
