According to recent research from Australia, traditional Chinese herbal medicine could help people experiencing the early stages of type 2 diabetes development avoid the disease. The research was conducted at the Center for Complementary Medicine Research at the University of Western Sydney in Australia.
The research was conducted in conjunction with the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and research studied results from thousands of people in 16 clinical trials involving 15 different formulations of Chinese herbs and their effect on diabetes .
The herbal remedies were found to lower blood sugar levels amongst those with pre-diabetes, and were found to be most effective when combined with lifestyle changes. The study found no serious side effects caused by the herbs, but lead researchers pointed out that prescription or recommendation should only be on a case by case basis.
