Delegates from the United Arab Emirates are expected to attend a diabetes conference to be held in Abu Dhabi . The UAE are one of a growing number of countries that face severe threats to their healthcare system from an emerging diabetic population.
The conference will bring together a number of experts in a Diabetes Specialist Forum. The forums are intended for Endocrinologists, Physicians, and Cardiologists. The first in the series will be held on December 13th.
The diabetes problem in the UAE is very significant, and it is expected that the disease could affect almost 65 per cent of UAE people as soon as 2010. The forums aim to stem the diabetes tide.
One UAE diabetes expert, Dr. Barakat, said: “these forums we will bring together the UAE’s leading physicians to discuss and share case history experiences. In many instances diabetes can be prevented if detected very early on and this must be an objective. We will share knowledge on management and prevention of diabetes at the monthly forums.”
