The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has called a nationwide state of alert following the discovery of fake blood glucose test strips on sale in America .
The fake test strips are for the One Touch brand of glucose monitors, and are thought to be being sold to diabetic patients across the USA . The fake strips could be incredibly dangerous. If a diabetic patient were to administer an incorrect dosage of insulin, serious complications could result. Apparently, no problems of this nature have been reported.
According to FDA sources, the following test strips could be counterfeit, and diabetic patients using the strips should cease instantly and consult a diabetes healthcare professional:
One Touch Basic®/Profile® (lot #272894A, 2619932 or 2606340) test strips, limited to 50-Count One Touch (Basic/Profile) Test Strip packages.

One Touch Ultra® (lot #2691191) test strips, limited to 50-Count One Touch Ultra Test Strip packages.
Apparently the situation is under investigation by monitor and test strip manufacturer Lifescan.
