Johnson and Johnso, the global manufacturer of health products, medical devices and pharmaceutical treatments, have announced the creation and launch of the Johnson and Johnson Diabetes Institute (JJDI.)
The international centres have been established with the aim of transforming diabetes care . They will give comprehensive training, cutting-edge diabetes tools and technologies, and reimbursement to diabetes healthcare specialists and educators. The chairman of the institute will be the former acting U.S Surgeon General, Dr. Moritsugu.
The instructional facilities will be built in Japan in 2007, and expanded into American, France and China in 2008. Dr. Moritsugu reportedly commented: “In sheer numbers and the costs in human suffering and money spent on health care, diabetes has reached crisis proportions around the globe. At a time when the annual direct health care costs for diabetes worldwide are estimated to be at least $232 billio, new strategies are needed to raise the level of care for people with diabetes, including stepped-up education and hands-on training of health professionals working at the local level.”
The group chairman of J&J, Don Casey, reportedly commented: “Through this Institute, Johnson and Johnson is determined to arm those on the front lines in delivering diabetes care with the latest information and practical skills so they can help their patients live healthier, longer lives.”
