Diabetes is now regarded as the fifth most deadly disease in the entire United States, and any treatment (be it allopathic or naturopathic) should be considered. Recent research indicated that chiropractic adjustments could contribute to wellness care for diabetics .
The study was published in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research, and highlighted the positive responses to chiropractic care when it was included as part of an integrative treatment for the care of patients suffering from type 2 diabetes. Chiropractic care can be a combined with other treatments, such as a healthy diet and exercise .
Chiropractic care is designed to correct any misalignment in the spinal column. The study found that the patient on the program resumed normal blood glucose levels after a month.
The president of the Sacro Occipital Technique Organisatio, Charles Blum, reportedly said: “It is unclear how much impact chiropractic care might have on the primary or secondary care of patients with diabetes. Further study is necessary to determine if there is a subset of patients with diabetes that might respond to chiropractic care incorporated in a system of other integrated methods of care.”
The editor of the journal that published the article agreed by saying: “This type of study is popping up everywhere. For more than 100 years, chiropractors have maintained that what they do affects organ system function and general health. Case studies like this demonstrate the urgency for more research funding from the public and private sector on chiropractic and its effects beyond neck and back pain .”
