Diabetes not to blame in crash

Despite news to the contrary reported yesterday, all indications are that an American driver who drove the wrong way down a freeway and crashed was not hypoglycaemic, which may rule out the role of diabetes in the crash.
The conclusions were drawn from a set of preliminary autopsy results, but experts caution that nothing is certain until full autopsy reports arrive. A senior medical examiner said that the results suggested diabetes was not to blame for the crash. One expert commented: “That initial field test suggested his blood sugars appeared to be relatively normal.”
The driver, Mark Santos, 25, died at the scene as his vehicle rolled off an overpass on Monday. Santos did suffer from type 1 diabetes, and had suffered from severe hypoglycaemic episodes in the past. More detailed toxicology results should reveal further details from the crash.
