A research team has stated that those people who eat a Western diet incorporating two or more servings of red meat per day, and fizzy drinks whether they are diet or not, are increasing their risks of developing diabetes and heart disease.
Servings of red meat, the researchers argue, should strictly be limited to just two per week. Eating more than this, apparently, leads to greater levels of metabolic syndromen, also known as pre-diabetes .
Metabolic syndrome is a common ailment whereby the body has elevated blood pressure, increased abdominal fat, higher blood sugar levels and lower levels of good cholesterol. The study was conducted at the University of Minnesota .
Dr. Lyn Steffen reportedly commented: “The Western diet increased the risk by about 18% overall of getting metabolic syndrome over nine years.”
