Medtronic, Inc. and Bayer Diabetes Care, a division of Bayer HealthCare and a member of the Bayer Group, today announced the availability in the UK and Ireland of the Contour® Link blood glucose meter . The new Contour® Link meter from Bayer, wirelessly sends blood glucose test results to compatible Medtronic MiniMed Paradigm® insulin pumps, and the Guardian® REAL-Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System. This process simplifies diabetes control making it more convenient for people managing diabetes.
The Contour® Link simplifies insulin pump bolus dosing and calibration of continuous glucose monitoring by eliminating the need for entering blood glucose readings manually into compatible Medtronic devices. Wirelessly transmitted blood glucose values eliminate the risk of data entry mistakes, and allow the insulin pump to easily calculate the insulin needed for bolus dosing. The MiniMed Paradigm REAL-Time and Guardian REAL-Time CGM systems allow for continuous measurement of the patient’s glucose levels that can identify trends and alert the patient to dangerous highs and lows. The wirelessly transmitted blood glucose values from the Contour Link serve to calibrate these CGM systems.
The Contour® Link meter also features the patented No Coding™ technology, an innovation that does not require the user to manually enter a code with each new box of test strips, eliminating the inaccuracies due to miscoding errors. Contour® Link provides results in just five seconds and allows patients to mark pre and post prandial results too. Contour® Link is compatible with the insulin pumps of the Medtronic MiniMed Paradigm series 512/712, 515/715, 522 and 722, and the Guardian® REAL-Time System.
