November is an important month in the diabetes calendar, including both World Diabetes Day and American Diabetes Month. To mark the occasio, the American Diabetes Foundation has initiated a $1 million campaign entitled ‘Kiss Diabetes Goodbye’ to fund research and support diabetes education .
Two major sponsors are on board with the campaign, with V8 matching every dollar up to $100,000 and Bristol-Myers Squibb and AstraZeneca matching the campaign up to $25,000.
Diabetes is a serious and alarming problem in American, with as many as 24 million children and adults in the USA suffering from the disease, covering some 7.8 per cent of the population. This figure reportedly comprises 17.0 million diagnosed type 1 and type 2 diabetics, and a stunning 5.7 million people unaware that they have the disease.
