According to a recent diabetes study, seniors who take diabetes drug Avandia could face a greater risk of death and heart failure compared to those that take other, similar diabetes drugs .
A study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, conducted in Bosto, indicates that those people aged 65 or over who took Avandia faced a 15 per cent increased risk of death after one year, not to mention a 13 per cent greater risk of heart failure.
Dr. Wolfgang Winkelmayer was reported as saying: “For men, that left an important question open. What if you happen to directly compare those two treatments together?”
The study authors reportedly concluded: “Although previous studies have indicated that the increased risk with rosiglitazone use resides predominantly in cardiovascular outcomes, the present study suggests that differences in all-cause mortality [death] risk may be even more important to consider in elderly patients.”
