According to recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released on Thursday, diabetes and obesity rates are increasing across the USA. The CDC released county specific data showing climbing diabetes rates in Shasta Country.
Michelle Sabol, one of the Healthy Communities Division supervisors with Shasta Country Public Health was reported as commenting: “I would like to think our educational efforts have made an impact on the rates of diabetes and other chronic diseases related to being overweight or obese .”
The impact of community health programs, such as the one implements in Shasta county called Healthy Shasta is hard to measure. For instance, although people with diabetes and pre-diabetes are being taught about nutrition and healthy living, they may not carry this advice into their lifestyle and diet .
