According to international diabetes news, the island of Guam needs a diabetes action plan. The diabetes population of the island is thought to be around 25 per cent of total population, and one of the top 10 leading causes of death in the country since 1985.
The Guam Healthcare and Hospital Development Foundation has announced new plans to work with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to develop a diabetes action plan. The plan will be modelled on a similar plan that worked in Pennsylvania.
The aim is to improve clinical outcomes for people with diabetes, by involving stakeholders of all levels, including public health, hospital and clinic staff and private doctors as well as diabetes patients . The initiative is thought to be much needed on the island.
