LifeScan OneTouch UltraSmart
OneTouch UltraSmart

The LifeScan OneTouch UltraSmart is a meter and electronic logbook. The meter works by providing more information to help people with diabetes manage their condition.

The OneTouch UltraSmart Meter is the first combination blood glucose meter and logbook, providing an easier way to understand blood glucose results.

Track exercise, health and diet

More than just a blood glucose meter, the OneTouch UltraSmart includes options to track exercise, health, diet and medication to better understand how they influence diabetes.

As well as accurate, simple meter functionality, the OneTouch Ultra Smart provides other options to help with diabetes management.

Charts and graphs

The OneTouch UltraSmart displays entries in charts and graphs to allow the patient to track trends and patterns.

Like all OneTouch meters, the UltraSmart requires a tiny blood sample to return accurate test results over and over again.

Lifescan claims that this is 'more than a meter', and indeed this little gizmo can do a lot. With an easy to use set of buttons and a scrolling menu, the OneTouch UltraSmart Meter lets you input information that may affect your control, such as exercise (doing something or doing nothing), health (if you're under the weather or top of your game), medication (units of insulin or pills) and food (carbs and fat content).

The Fast Facts button gives people with diabetes the power of information.

Without needing to download the results, you use the meter itself to see your data in the form of a simple logbook or charts and graphs that allow you to see trends and patterns over time.

You'll get the kind of information your healthcare team might talk to you about in terms of understanding, measuring and managing your diabetes - making you a well informed boss of your own condition.

A good meter, but for some reason, the log book entries in my one are not in order. I have had other times when, even though it says the log book entries in correct order, it says "No data" for glucose range or averages when there ARE these data there. Do you know what might have happened? Mine is several years old. Thanks for any help, Anthony C. Edwards

I have been using this meter for the last three years and it is truly a fantastic bit of kit. I download everything to my computer and take the print offs to my diabetic clinics. Lets my healthcare team know exactly what is going on with me. You can connect it to any computer via the USB cable available from Johnston & Johnston for free and if you are running Windows 7, phone their helpdesk and they will talk you through setting the software up properly. I use Windows 7 myself and haven't had one glitch with it.

A very great meter, especially for people who like all the extras, which I have never used. A very low mmol testing range, reading to lower levels than many other meters and also works at lower temperatures than many other meters. All together a very nice meter although the test strips are fairly expensive. One problem with it is that there is meant to be a problem with it's reporting, where it can report in mg/dl rather than mmol/l although I have never noticed this problem. It was withdrawn/replaced because of this problem.

A great tool but downloading to a computer can only be done via a serial cable and Windows Vista cannot handle that. I hope LifeScan will soon produce a similarly useful meter that can be used by the latest Windows operating systems.

Just received this meter and it's all I've been looking for. Got it connecting to my Vista Laptop (can't get it working with Windows 7 64 bit yet) and you can add new manual readings and even delete readings so they don't affect the averages. Only one complaint the OK button can stick on the case and take you out of the menu you are on.

I've had my OneTouch Ultrasmart for around 4 years now. I've been very happy with it and had no problems. It does what it says on the tin as they say. I do have the optional PC lead and software and download my readings every few months so I have a complete record to analyse. I did find the software and driver a bit difficult to find on the Lifescan website at the time I needed to do a re-install on a new PC and I think I found the USB driver on the Canadian site eventually. I hope Lifescan have now sorted all that out.

What a fabulous piece of kit. Every Diabetic should have one ! Keeps records of virtually everything you can think of, food, medication, exercise, health checks, Chol ,Trigs, BP etc. You name it, it does it. Excellent graph capability which my Endo thinks is great and was fascinated by, looking at it for about twenty minutes before I reminded him I needed to be elsewhere ! If you are able to get one, go for it. You also get the free software and cable to allow you download to your PC, reporting facilities etc are again excellent. I have used many meters over the years but this really is the Platinum version. Great product 10/10 in my view. Yes. I like it !
