Orange juice linked with diabetes risk

Thu, 24 Jul 2008
A study involving thousands of female nurses indicates that women who drink fruit juice every morning could be 18 per cent more likely to develop type 2 diabetes . Drinking orange juice, usually regarded as being a healthy start to the day, apparently ups risk of diabetes .

However, eating whole fruits, the researchers claimed, actually lowered diabetes risks . The findings were published in the journal Diabetes Care . Natural sugars in fruit juce could potentially be the cause behind the damage.

The study was conducted by experts at the Tulane University in New Orleans, and the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston. The study researched over 71,000 nurses over a three year period.
