According to recent diabetes news reports, a pioneering new diabetes treatment could use stem cell injections to reset immune systems amongst patients. Those with type 1 diabetes could therefore go for several years without requiring insulin injections . At this stage, the treatment isn’t risk-free, and also isn’t effective amongst all patients.
Stem cell treatment for type 1 diabetes, although occasionally associated with providing a cure, is a difficult procedure that remains imperfect. A recent study has reinvestigated all of those people with diabetes who have had stem cell treatment, and found that a significant proportion had some time without needing insulin .
The most recent research was conducted in Brazil and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The conclusion of the study was, for some time at least, people with type 1 diabetes would have to continue insulin injections.
