Diabetes charity Diabetes UK has warned people with diabetes not to miss eye tests . As many as 500,000 people with diabetes could risk losing their sight by missing the correct eye tests, the charity said.
New tests with a digital camera can spot early signs of retinal damage. Diabetes UK highlighted failures amongst 100 of the 152 NHS primary care trusts to live up to set targets for screening.
A spokesman for the charity was reported in the news as commenting: "Half-a-million people are still not having their eyes checked using a digital camera. The tragedy is blindness can be prevented in 90 per cent of these cases."
Diabetes retinopathy is one of the leading causes of blindness in the UK, and one of the most common and severe diabetes complications .
