According to diabetes news, women who are seriously overweight and have weight loss surgery before pregnancy could help to lower the risk of pregnancy complications, including high blood pressure and diabetes .
Being overweight is incredibly common in the developed world, and being obese during pregnancy can lead to serious complications, including diabetes and pre-eclampsia. For those women looking to lose weight, exercise and diet plans can be effective, and surgery is becoming increasingly more common.
Research indicates that women who have weight loss surgery and then go on to become pregnant could fare better during pregnancy than those women that remain obese . A recent study looked at the health insurance records of 585 women in the United States, most of whom had gastric bypass surgery. The study was conducted by the John Hopkins University.
