According to research conducted by the Indiana University School of Medicine, two new protein targets could make all the difference when it comes to preventing diabetes . A research team found that two human proteins provide new opportunities for researchers hoping to thwart diabetes development .
The research team looked at mice who are prone to diabetes, and found that by blocking the action of proteins the development of diabetes in the mice was greatly reduced. The Journal of Clinical Investigation published the study.
The research team, at the paediatric Diabetes Research Group at the Herman B Wells center reportedly commented: "Because it sat in a hotbed of inflammatory genes, and because many of these inflammatory genes are known to be important in the progression of diabetes, we thought eIF5A might also have role in the progression of diabetes."
