A new survey from the United States has shown that fatigue is the most crucial challenge for people suffering from diabetes, it has emerged.
The study into the key issues that affect the lives of diabetics, which was commissioned by Diabetica Research Solutions, revealed that 85 per cent of respondents with diabetes to their survey admitted that fatigue is their most difficult challenge and can make it hard to get through the day.
Richard Corli, chairman of the advisory board at DRSI Diabetes, commented “Living with diabetes is a constant challenge. Chronic fatigue may be symptomatic of the disease and can make it difficult for someone with diabetes to be active enough to control weight and properly self-manage their disease.”
He added “People with poorly controlled diabetes are often dehydrated and vitamin B depleted. These can be significant factors causing fatigue.”
The findings from the survey showed that many people take fizzy drinks as a way of getting more energy, despite them being high on a list of things that contribute to weight gain, another major concern for people with type 2 diabetes. It was also found that just 6 per cent of respondents admitting to consuming energy drinks because they are known to be unhealthy due to ingredients such as sugar, caffeine and herbal stimulants.
