Diabetes patients in Wales to benefit from charity runners

The health charity Diabetes UK Cymru is to benefit from competitors running on their behalf at the Cardiff 10 km race last Sunday. About 70 runners from around South Wales took part in the race for the charity, to help bring in new funds and support for people suffering from diabetes in the principality.

For the second year in a row that Diabetes UK Cymru had runners competing on their behalf. The monies raised by the runners will go to help fund research into the metabolic condition and support patients with diabetes throughout Wales.

Dai Williams, who is national director of the charity, commented "Money the runners have raised will enable us to give advice, information and support to the 153,000 people now diagnosed with diabetes in Wales and, crucially, pay for vital research into diabetes."

He added "Each and every one of our Cardiff 10k runners did something amazing to support the growing number of people living with the serious lifelong condition in Wales."

To follow on from the success of the Cardiff 10 km, Diabetes UK Cymru are now calling for people to take part in the first ever Newport marathon and half marathon on Sunday 30 October to raise more funds for diabetes.
