According to diabetes news reports, fake diabetes drugs have caused two deaths in China . Authorities in the Xinjiang region of China indicate that the fake drugs came from Northeast China, in the Liaoning Province.
The drug was sold under a particular brand name and was found to contain a much higher than normal dose of an active compound used to help lower blood sugar levels. Two patients died last month after taking the drug.
The Chinese authorities are investigating claims against a distributor and pharmaceutical company, who have so far denied producing the killer drugs. As many as 14,400 bottles of the drug may have entered the regio, with about 10,663 already recovered. Where the drug was produced remains unclear.
