Medtronic Inc. has launched something called the Guardian Real-time System for use by diabetics . The system is designed to monitor blood glucose levels amongst diabetics, and will be prescribed by doctors.
Described as a personal continuous glucose monitoring system (CGM), the system will incorporate Medtronic CareLink Personal Therapy Management Software. This integrates the data provided by the system and identifies patterns and trends to facilitate better glucose management.
The 20 million plus diabetics in American, not to mention the healthcare experts who treat them, should welcome the news . Managing blood glucose levels effectively lessens the chance of long-term complications developing, and could slash the overall cost of treatment.
Medtronic sell a number of insulin pumps, CGM systems, and diabetes management software products.
