No matter their material wealth, overweight and obese people are more likely to develop diabetes . The fresh research indicates that having or earning plenty of money isn’t necessarily any good for exercise, and doesn’t reduce one’s risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Obese people who were professional faced just as many diabetes-related problems as those who worked in manual labour. The study group exceeded 1,300 men and women, spread throughout 14 European countries.
The people surveyed had not become diabetic, instead they were insulin resistant, a common step on the path to pre-diabetes and metabolic syndrome. One professor involved in the study, Mark Walker, reportedly commented: “People are under the impression that you have to go and put your jogging shoes on. We’re saying no. Fidgeting is good.”
Walker was speaking at the annual conference of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, where the conclusion that cash didn’t make the average fat person more healthy.
