Type 2 diabetics helped by arthritis drug

A research team at the Joslin Diabetes Centre have reportedly found that a popular arthritis drug could be used in treating type 2 diabetics .
The drug, known as Salsalate, has been used for a long time to treat arthritis, working by reducing inflammation amongst arthritics. The study, the first of its kind, links salsalate with positive influences on type 2 diabetes .
Previously, the research team conducted a study that found salsalate could be effective in preventing diabetes . The team conducted three studies to assess the impact of the drug on diabetic patients. The positive results meant that the trials progressed quickly through the clinical stages. There are currently further, large-scale clinical trials underway.
Recent years have seen a number of cross-over drugs proving effective in treating or helping to manage diabetes .
