Diabetes charity the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation recently claimed that one of its biotechnology partners has signed a collaborative agreement with a pharmaceutical company to progress research into type 1 diabetes treatment .
The JDRF are one of the international leaders in diabetes research, and serve to fund and advocate research into type 1 diabetes . This most recent news is a triumph for the Industry Discovery and Development Partnership. The JDRF gives early stage funding to smaller biotech companies .

President and CEO of the JDRF, Alan Lewis, reportedly commented: “We began the IDDP program to help small companies demonstrate proof-of-principle for innovative ideas and products to treat and cure type 1 diabetes, in order to attract funding for potential commercialization from large drug companies. This latest agreement further demonstrates that the strategy is successful in accelerating the pace of research leading to a cure for diabetes .”
