Fake diabetes test strips found in India

Global US healthcare firm Johnson and Johnson (J&J) has found more fake versions of its diabetes test strips in India, it has emerged. The company has been investigating these fake products for some time in a bid to stop their being made and sold illegally.
Police in India have already arrested three men in the New Delhi area in connection with the counterfeit products, which have been manufactured to look like J&J’s OneTouch Ultra blood glucose test strips, although they are missing certain features, including the OneTouch trademark printed on the strips.
It is thought the counterfeit strips are made in China and then put into false packaging in India; the company has already uncovered fake strips in the US, seizing thousands of the strips while working with law enforcement agencies there and around the world to bring criminal convictions against those involved.
J&J’s LifeScan division is collaborating with the Drugs Controller General of India and Customs in an attempt to stop the fake test strips becoming widespread in India.
The real strips are used in conjunction with meters that show levels of sugar in the bloodstream of people suffering from type 2 diabetes, while the false ones can provide an inaccurate reading, which could result in the dangerous situation of patients taking either too little or too much insulin .
