Novo Nordisk has recalled seven batches of GlucaGen HypoKit in the UK after a problem was identified by the drugmaker.
The Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has warned that the needle has separated from the syringe in a very small number of cases, meaning they can no longer be used.

Novo Nordisk has since recalled the affected batches from wholesales, pharmacies and patients. The fault was found in 0.006 per cent of kits supplied.
Patients can check the batch number on their GlucaGen HypoKit to see if their batch is affected. If your kit is part of the above mentioned batches you should return it to your pharmacy. The, you will be given a free replacement kit.
What is the GlucaGen Hypokit?
The GlucaGen HypoKit is indicated for the treatment of severe hypoglycemia in diabetes patients who are treated with insulin.
The treatment is to be given when a patient becomes unconscious or unable to ingest a source of sugar, so it is imperative that the kit is functioning effectively.
The MHRA has warned this problem could lead to a delay in patient treatment, which could have severe consequences for health.
“Whilst only a small number of these kits are affected by this fault it is important that people are confident their treatment will be effective in the event of emergency,” said Gerald Heddell, MHRA’s director of inspectio, enforcement and standards.
“People with these kits should check which batch their kit is from and, where necessary, get a replacement from a pharmacist.
“We continue to encourage people to report any issues to the MHRA via our Yellow Card Scheme.”
