The skin is trying to dump heat.
The muscles are trying to keep moving.
The heart has to work harder to support both.
That is why a run, cycle or football session can feel dramatically harder in heat than it does on a cool day.
The best adjustment is timing.
Exercise earlier in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are lower.
Shade matters too.
The difference between direct sun and shade can be far greater than the official air temperature suggests.
Humidity is another key factor.
Sweat cools the body when it evaporates.
In humid air, evaporation is less effective, so the same temperature can feel much more dangerous.
On hot days, reduce intensity before your body forces you to.

But this adaptation fades if it is not maintained.

Elite athletes can be at risk because they are trained to override discomfort.
Most people should not try to tough this out.
Heat is not just uncomfortable.
It changes the demands on the body.
Training smart in hot weather means respecting that.
