The diabetes charity, diabetes UK, have announced that they will now undertake their largest ever research initiative. The team will use £3 million to improve the lives of diabetes sufferers in the UK, through research into care and treatment practices, as outlined in the recently published Research Strategy.
The director of research at the charity reportedly said: “We are extremely excited to be embarking on this huge research initiative, which will go some way towards achieving our mission to improve the lives of people with diabetes.”
It is an exciting time for the charity and diabetes patients alike. She continued: “While we wait for and are working towards finding a cure, we must find better ways to help people live with the condition on a daily basis. I am confident that this major new research initiative will move us a step in closer to helping people with diabetes live longer, and live healthier for longer with improved quality of life .”
Diabetes UK will scrutinise research projects, without funding restrictions and a five-year window to work in. Hopefully some of the proposals can contribute to making a difference to the life of diabetic patients in the UK.
