Leading American diabetes charity, the American Diabetes Association has applauded the US Congress for voting to extend the Special Diabetes Programs for an additional two year period.
The US Senate voted to support a Medicare package that includes extending the diabetes program, confirming the package following approval in the US House of Representatives.
The programs include the Special Diabetes Program for Indians, and the Special Statutory Funding Program for type 1 diabetes research. The Chair of the Board of the American Diabetes Associatio, R. Stewart Perry, reportedly commented: “We applaud Congress for their vote to extend the Special Diabetes Programs. We know the value of these programs and the real difference they make in the quality of life for millions of people with diabetes and, in changing the future for all people with diabetes .”
