According to a team of researchers in the US, the genes that increase the risk of heart diseases amongst normal people also cause a far greater risk of heart disease amongst people with diabetes .
The research could help figure out which people with diabetes face the greatest risk for heart disease, and furthermore lead to new treatments. The research, conducted at Harvard Medical School in Bosto, was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Dr. Alessandro Doria reportedly commented: “Coronary artery disease is one of the leading causes of death in this country and diabetes is a major risk factor for coronary artery disease. But not everybody with diabetes is at the same risk.”
